Job Title: Residential Childcare Worker
Location: Bedford, Bedfordshire
Salary: £27,000 – £30,000 per annum (dependent on experience and qualifications)
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Shifts: Rota-based (including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience working with children or young people in care, education, or support settings (residential care experience is a plus)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or a commitment to complete this within 2 years)
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Empathetic, resilient, and committed to trauma-informed practice
  • Full UK driving licence (essential due to location and travel needs)
  • Flexible to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins (sleep-in allowance may be applicable)
Responsibilities

THE ROLE:

As a Residential Childcare Worker, you will play a vital role in the lives of children and young people aged 8–17 who have experienced trauma, neglect, or other adverse experiences. You’ll work closely with them to build positive relationships, support their emotional and behavioural development, and help create brighter futures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide consistent, high-quality care and emotional support to children and young people in a residential setting
  • Build positive, trusting relationships to encourage growth and resilience
  • Support with daily routines, education, and personal development
  • Promote positive behaviour and respond to challenging situations in a calm, therapeutic manner
  • Participate in household activities, outings, and appointments
  • Keep accurate records and contribute to care planning and reviews
  • Maintain a strong focus on safeguarding and child protection at all times
