Overview:
Legacy Youth Care is recruiting a compassionate and dedicated children’s Residential Care Worker to provide essential support to up to 2 children in our residential home, located in NE4.
This is a tremendous opportunity to make a lasting difference in young people’s lives while being part of something new and inspiring. You’ll help build a residential children’s home from the ground up, where every young person’s voice is valued and respected.
Along the way, you’ll develop both personally and professionally, with guidance and support from a highly experienced leadership team, ensuring your growth is aligned with Ofsted standards and the expectations of relevant legislative and regulatory bodies.
The ideal candidate, will have experience in working with trauma-experience and will have an innate desire to bring positive changes to our vulnerable children and young people and become their positive role models, whilst maintaining high professionalism, which includes strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills.

Requirements:

  • Level 3 Health & Social Care or equivalent (desired but not essential)
  • Previous experience in childcare or working with children is highly desirable.
  • Holds a full, clean UK driving licence for at least 12 months and is confident in driving young passengers.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age (as required for residential children’s care settings).
  • Right to work in the UK (we do not offer sponsorship).
  • Able and willing to work a rotating shift pattern, including days, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Professional, punctual, reliable, and self-motivated.
  • Able to obtain (or already holds) an Enhanced DBS certificate for working with children, as this is a regulated activity.
  • To be compassionate, kind, and emotionally intelligent
  • Be firm yet fair, with strong personal boundaries and professional judgement
  • Be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced and evolving environment
  • Be honest, dependable, and accountable
  • Show commitment to achieve the best possible outcomes for children and young people
  • Finally, be willing to learn from the Registered Manager and the leadership team

Responsibilities
  • Support the effective daily operations of the home alongside the leadership team.
  • Deliver direct care and support to young people as required.
  • Provide emotional support during challenging moments, modelling empathy and stability.
  • Encourage ambition and help young people set and work toward personal goals.
  • Assist with educational development and promote a positive learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for planning meetings, reviews, and other forums.
  • Advocate for the young person in all professional and planning meetings.
  • Empower children to participate in decisions about their lives and their futures.
  • Organise and participate in activities, social outings, and daily routines.
  • Ensure the home is maintained to a high standard of cleanliness, comfort, and safety (including cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping).
  • Promote and reinforce positive behaviour through consistent support and encouragement.
  • Support social, emotional, and physical development tailored to individual needs.
  • Always adhere to Legacy’s Safeguarding and Health & Safety procedures during home-based activities and external outings.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to a strong, supportive team culture inside and outside the home.
