To support and develop residential students to ensure welfare and pastoral support is monitored against national care standards for students in accommodation. Supporting the residential management team in monitoring student welfare and providing support for ‘at risk’ students as required. To assist in the day to day operations of the University of Hertfordshire Campus including the cleaning and hygiene of the block. To support and advise students by helping them meet the range of personal, social and emotional needs ensuring student retention and success. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES To provide daytime residential support and independent living skills support. • To monitor and personally check all students in accommodation regarding attendance and achievement daily as instructed or required To record and report all incidents via email or the online reporting system • To maintain student records and record appropriately using the pro monitor and pro solution systems. • To support the residential coordinator and Head of residential in ensuring health and safety and fire safety regulations are carried out in the accommodation as required • To support students to develop and live together whilst abiding by Oaklands College rules and helping to develop a safe community • to provide daily block cleaning as per the agreed rota. • To ensure student behaviour is appropriate and respectful to each other. • To provide First Aid response as required. • To provide additional support in case of emergencies • To take part in any emergency that may require evacuation of students, this will include bad weather or power cuts. • To be responsible for the daytime supervision of the Residential Mobile Phone during the working hours, responding to communication from students and parents. Support students to clean their own rooms. To co-ordinate access to student accommodation and provide chaperone to all contractors or other trades where necessary To offer a basic advisory service on welfare issues including financial assistance, accommodation related matters, and health issues, and additional support to any students who have been identified as being at risk of dropping out of their programme PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES Organised approach to work, able to work on own initiative and to administer own workload. Ability to evaluate and reflect on own performance Ability to form balanced judgements about student problems and support needs High level of personal integrity and confidentiality Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business Ability to stay calm under pressure Ability to work in a professional, impartial and non-judgemental way Excellent customer service skills and a genuine interest in working with and helping customers An awareness of cultural diversity SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Experience of developing and delivering a range of activities for students of all ages and abilities Sound knowledge of agencies that work with young people and understanding of the need to make referrals Demonstrate ability to organise and deliver key events for students Effective verbal and written communication skills Skills and abilities to work with relevant internal and external services/agencies Good administrative , organisational and presentational skills Good IT skills and experience of using database recording systems Student-centred approach and good organisational and time management skills Experience of working effectively with client groups including maintaining appropriate discipline and behaviour Please note: 37 Hours per week (term time only) plus 6(42 weeks total)
Responsibilities
