JOB SUMMARY:
Assists clients to live successfully in residential settings such as group homes. Ensures that clients’ physical, emotional, social, educational, medical needs are met. Assists clients to enhance quality of life with activities of daily living and the development of life skills.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
· Certificate or diploma in a related human/social service field (ie: Special Needs Worker, Community Support Worker, or Human Service Worker certificates)
· One (1) year of recent, related experience
· An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License
· Ability to obtain full Class 4 BC Driver’s License within the probation period (three (3) months). Class 4 is required for successful completion of the probation period.
· Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate or equivalent
· Valid Level 1 First Aid and CPR.
· Satisfactory ICBC driver’s abstract.
· Clear Criminal Record check for the purpose of working with vulnerable adults.
· Ability to obtain Certificate of Fitness for Job Duties.
· Ability to participate in a moderate to high level of physical activity.
· Ability to assess, evaluate, and respond effectively to shifting priorities.
· Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
· Required to provide personal care assistance to clients.
· Able to meet applicable legislation and regulations (ie: Community Care and Assisted Living Act, PHO Mandates).
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Ability to obtain WHMIS certification.
· Ability to obtain Food Safe.
· Commitment to person-centered support based on self-determination and optimal quality of life for all individuals served.
· Excellent Initiative, problem-solving, and time management skills
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Protecting client rights.
· Ensure safety and wellbeing of residents by providing appropriate supports as stated in the support plans, safety plans, and/or behaviour plans.
· Promoting community inclusion and supporting resident’s goals.
· Participating in the assessment, goal setting and program planning for the residents.
· Documenting, implementing and providing input into the evaluation of the program. Provides life skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills and personal finance and implements personal service plans.
· Assists clients with activities of daily living such as feeding, lifts, transfers, hygiene, grooming and toileting. This may include transfer of function duties such as gastrostomy feeding, tracheostomy management, and suction and bowel management.
· Participates in various client-focused activities in accordance with support plans.
· Recognizes, analyzes and deals with potential emergency situations such as clients’ aggressive behaviour to ensure no harm comes to the client and/or the public. Reports problems to the supervisor.
· Administers medication to clients in accordance with established policy.
· Assists with case management by identifying potential problems and reporting any difficulties. Provides input to counsellor, professional, regarding the development of appropriate program plans to achieve residents’ objectives. Contributes to the evaluation of residents’ progress and prepares reports.
· Provides emotional support and feedback to residents and their families. Transports and assists residents to appointments, shopping or leisure activities.
· Performs residence maintenance and housekeeping duties such as laundry, sweeping, mopping floors, inventory, shopping, cleaning equipment and food services.
· Performs outdoor maintenance and housekeeping duties such as mowing lawns, raking leaves, shovelling snow, and weeding as required.
· Maintains reports such as statistics, logbooks, daily activities on residents.
· Identifies social, economic, recreational and educational services in the community that will meet clients’ needs.
· Maintains liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials and the community.
· Performs other related duties as required.
