QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or another related field.
  • One (1) year of experience working in a residential setting, preferably at Salus
  • Two (2) years of experience working with marginalized individuals living with mental illness or substance use health, and homelessness.

PRE-HIRING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Academic Certificate(s).
  • Criminal reference check (vulnerable sector).
  • Eligible to work in Canada.
  • Proof that you have received both doses of a Health Canada approved COVID 19 vaccine at least 14 days before the first day of work, subject always to Ottawa Salus’ duty to accommodate under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
  • Availability to work weekends and evenings.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of mental health, mental illness and treatment modalities.
  • Knowledge of group dynamics theory and practice.
  • Knowledge of concurrent disorders.
  • Knowledge of health issues and of social problems associated with psychiatric disabilities and the impact of mental Illness on functional capacity.

Responsibilities

PURPOSE:

The Residential Worker Team Lead is responsible for providing onsite support to Residential Workers at Ottawa Salus’ 24-hour programs during regularly scheduled shifts, working as part of the agency’s Residential Worker team and reporting directly to the Program Manager. The Residential Worker Team Lead responsibilities include providing on-site support, orientation, training and guidance to Residential Workers (casual, part-time and overnight staff); and general program and client support.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Residential Worker Responsibilities

  • Provide supportive counseling and/or crisis intervention to client/tenants whenever necessary.
  • Provide life skills teaching (e.g., cleaning, cooking, etc.), basic counseling and early identification of changes in resident’s health status.
  • Support clients with their medication regiments, recovery plan achievement, and outings for recreation, appointments, etc.
  • Document as needed in EMHware, communication book/ log, incident reports, etc.
  • Remain knowledgeable and up-to-date on all monitoring guidelines, policies and procedures.

Team Lead Responsibilities

  • Provide team leadership, guidance and support to promote effective service delivery and continuous quality improvement.
  • Distribute and communicate relevant community, agency and program information to Residential Workers.
  • Provide orientation, functional supervision and peer support to Residential Workers.
  • Promote and monitor staff and tenant/client safety and compliance with practices, policies and procedures of Salus.
  • Work collaboratively with management to foster a work environment that is conducive to Salus’s values.
  • Support program managers with staff learning and learning goals.
  • Provide on-call support while on duty.
  • Support program managers with coordinating staff scheduling.
  • Coordinate Residential Worker staff meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
