Promote the coordination and development of service to improve access of children with special needs to licensed child care programs. ---------------------------------------- RESPONSIBILITIES: * Assist licensed child care program staff and providers to develop and implement plans that facilitate inclusion and full participation of children with special needs * Observe, assess and document children’s strengths, areas of challenge and areas of emerging skills and interests * Perform developmental screening and observation of children in consultation with parents and child care staff and providers to assist in early identification of a child’s needs * Plan and deliver training to child care program staff, providers and parents, using a variety of strategies and techniques that build knowledge and skill in prevention, early identification and intervention techniques * Facilitate access to appropriate community resources for children with special needs. * Outreach to early years services, including licensed child care programs in the community * Maintain accurate and complete documentation as required * Actively   participate in inter-agency and service provider initiatives aimed at coordinating services for children and reducing service gaps * Liaise with representatives from the community, City of Toronto, Children’s Services, and other groups or individuals who support children with special needs and their families * Advocate on behalf of children with special needs and their families * Attend agency staff meetings and training, team meetings and special events. * Engage in ongoing professional development and training. * Maintain optimal attendance at work. * Mentor or supervisor students and volunteers. * Work in compliance with all applicable regulations and laws * Comply with all Macaulay policies, practices and quality standards * Work to further Macaulay’s mission, vision, values and strategic directions * Perform other tasks as delegated or assigned QUALIFICATIONS: * Early Childhood Education degree with at least one year of specific special needs training and 2 years experience working with children with special needs * Member in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators * Proven ability to work effectively with community partners, parents/families, licensed child care staff, home child care providers and children with special needs to achieve integration and established outcomes * Proven experience leading the development and delivery of professional development workshops to adult audiences with a range of language and literacy levels * Advanced knowledge and experience in the areas of child development, child guidance and children with special needs * Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication and listening skills * Ability to communicate effectively in more than one language a definite asset * Computer literacy required together with proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, Internet and email * Demonstrated   ability   to   build   and   maintain   effective   work partnerships with parents/families, colleagues and service providers of diverse backgrounds, abilities and identities * Strong understanding of teamwork and the ability to work effectively and contribute to a high performing team * Excellent time management skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize * Valid Ontario Driver’s license with access to vehicle required. * Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check. ---------------------------------------- SALARY: Resource Consultant Salary Scale (starting at 31.01/hour- $56,432- 61,390 per annum) with Competitive Benefits Package (health & dental) and paid time off entitlements (starting at 20 vacation days & 3 float days) ---------------------------------------- THIS POSITION IS WITHIN THE CUPE LOCAL 2563 BARGAINING UNIT.
