SUMMARY

This role will play a key role in advancing RMA’s fundraising capacity. With a passion for creating social impact through fundraising and philanthropy, the successful candidate will be skilled at deepening existing donor relationships and building new ones. THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director, the Resource Development Officer will play a pivotal role in advancing and elevating RMA’s fundraising capacity. With a passion for creating social impact through fundraising and philanthropy, the successful candidate will be skilled at deepening existing donor relationships and building new ones.

REQUIREMENTS

Lead Competencies:

  • Knowledge of and commitment to fundraising principles and best practices.
  • Skilled in and passionate about developing relationships with major donors and prospects with a focus on solicitation, stewardship, and renewal.
  • Ability to use strategic approaches to assess and prioritize opportunities, and exercise discernment on when to involve senior staff and volunteers in the donor and prospect cycle.
  • Strong, independent writing skills with experience developing compelling donor proposals, grant applications, and stewardship reports.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills from 1:1 conversations to community group presentations.
  • Excellent listening skills with an ability to connect with individuals of various backgrounds and lived experiences.
  • Committed to the critical role data analytics play in advancing a diversified fund development plan.
  • Ability to balance day-to-day activities with longer term strategic projects (of particular importance given the part-time nature of the role).
  • Active involvement in and passion for outdoor recreation activities in the Bow Valley.

Qualifications:

  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in fundraising, including annual campaigns and major gifts
  • University degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and achievements
  • Experience working with volunteer members of fundraising committees or campaign cabinets preferred
  • CFRE designation – achieved or working towards – an asset
  • Skilled experience using donor databases including analytic functionality
  • Committed to ethical fundraising practices including the Donor Bill of Rights and fluent in CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) practices related to charitable receipting

Responsibilities
  • Create a diversified annual fund development plan that builds on RMA’s existing fundraising strengths and prioritizes strategic opportunities.
  • Deliver on the annual fund development plan with confidence and accountability, in collaboration with the Executive Director, the Resource Development Coordinator, and the Board’s Fundraising Committee.
  • Build meaningful relationships with current and potential supporters in full alignment with RMA’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Manage the relationship cycle of major and mid-level individual and corporate donors from prospecting through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Prepare strategic solicitation materials including donor correspondence, select grant applications and reports, and foundation proposals.
  • Use data strategically to advance resource development goals and fundraising targets.
  • Represent RMA effectively and authentically with donors, funders, supporters, including at events and in community.
  • Build strong internal relationships particularly with Resource Development Coordinator, often providing skill-building support and guidance.
