POSITION SUMMARY

The Resource Worker plays a key role in providing direct support and supervision to children and youth living in the group or foster home. The Resource Worker is responsible for providing direct care, supervision, and support to children and youth placed in the home. The role focuses on maintaining a safe, structured, and nurturing environment while promoting each child’s emotional, social, cultural, and physical development. The Resource Worker works as part of a multidisciplinary team to implement care plans, provide mentorship, and ensure compliance with licensing standards and agency policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma/degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Services, Psychology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience working with children and youth in residential/OPR or child welfare settings.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, child/youth development, and behavioural interventions.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage as required.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Valid CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check and Child Welfare Check.

Responsibilities
  • Provide daily care, supervision, and emotional support to youth in accordance with their individualized care plans.
  • Model positive behaviours and support youth in developing coping strategies, life skills, and independence.
  • Ensure a safe, structured, and supportive living environment in line with licensing standards and agency policies.
  • Facilitate recreational, cultural, educational, and therapeutic activities.
  • Assist youth with school attendance, appointments, and community engagement.
  • Support crisis intervention and implement behaviour support strategies when required.
  • Document daily logs, incident reports, and progress notes in compliance with CAS/agency requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with CAS workers, families, and other professionals involved in the youth’s care.
  • Administer medications and follow health/therapeutic plans as directed.
  • Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and ongoing training.
  • Promote cultural safety, inclusivity, and trauma-informed practices in daily interactions.
