Description
The Respiratory Assistant performs designated respiratory care and pulmonary diagnostic procedures under the supervision of a Respiratory Therapist or designee, following all department and hospital protocols to support the treatment, management, control, diagnostic evaluation, and care of patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies or abnormalities. Essential Functions Perform designated respiratory care and pulmonary diagnostic procedures under the supervision of a Respiratory Therapist or designee and in accordance with hospital and departmental protocol. Carry out therapeutic and diagnostic tasks involving medical gases, humidification, aerosols, and administration apparatus as ordered by a physician. Administer cardiopulmonary medications and treatments, including bronchopulmonary drainage, breathing exercises, and CPR, within scope of licensure. Maintain natural and artificial airways, ensuring proper function, safety, and alignment with patient care plans. Distribute stock, supplies, and respiratory equipment to designated areas to ensure readiness and availability for clinical staff. Clean, disinfect, visually inspect, calibrate, and set up biomedical and respiratory equipment, following established safety and infection-control procedures. Conduct daily rounds through nursing units to retrieve, return, and organize respiratory equipment for departmental use. Perform additional duties as assigned, supporting overall department operations and contributing to patient-centered care. Education High School Diploma or GED License/Registration - Issued by Florida or Compact State FL Practical Nurse Paramedic Certification Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA)
