DESCRIPTION:
The Respiratory Therapist I (RT) is responsible for professional assessment, therapeutic intervention and follow-up for patients with cardio-pulmonary and related disorders. The RT I reviews clinical referrals, conducts assessments and performs diagnostic testing, develops and administers care plans for patients, facilitates discharge and provides education to clients, family and care givers. The RT I is responsible for the provision of services in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the HSAA Paramedical Professional/Technical Collective Agreement.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of a recognized and accredited school of Respiratory Therapy program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration and member in good standing with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
Additional Required Qualifications: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required. Proven problem solving and critical thinking skills required. Excellent organizational and time management skills required. Basic computer and keyboarding skills required. Familiarity with electronic charting (Connect Care) required. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required. N95 mask fit tested required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Active membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) preferred. Certification in the Baby Friendly Initiative preferred. Two years current acute care experience in NICU, ER, AICU, Medicine and Surgical Units preferred. Trec and Trac training preferred. Smoking Cessation, Patient Education, Care Maps, Student Preceptoring preferred. NRP Instructor preferred. Certified neonatal intubator preferred. Experience in Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) preferred.
