Your Opportunity:
The Respiratory Therapist II (RRT) provides leadership and expertise in the field of respiratory therapy and will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to assist in the diagnosis and management of patients with cardiopulmonary disorders, spinal cord injuries and sleep disorder breathing. You will actively participate in the education of patients, family, students, staff, and physicians; contribute to department and/or service area process improvement; maintain a professional and accountable practice; advocate professionally and effectively for patients using the principles of patient and family centred care; and provide technical support for all Respiratory Therapy equipment. This role will specifically support non invasive patients, Spinal cord injuries and complex care patients throughout FMC and Arthur Child Cancer. In collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, this role will perform NIV downloads, interpretation, titration, habituation and education. They will liaise with physicians for complex respiratory patients. This role will also support the management and transition of complex care patients from ICU to the wards and complex airway and NIV discharges to the community. All RRT positions at FMC are expected to be able to work in all areas that Respiratory Services clinically supports if required. Daily service area assignments can be adjusted at the manager’s discretion to meet department and operational needs. Current rotation for this position is Monday-Friday day shifts.
Description:
As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will coordinate, monitor and assess clinical services in your assigned area. You will act as a clinical resource for daily operations, coordinating the work of therapy assessment and treatment in your service area, and assist in the development of clinical protocols. You will develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor the progress of patients (clients, residents) receiving advanced respiratory treatment. You will identify new equipment requirements, and establish and maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials for your area. You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including but not limited to operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance. You will participate in interprofessional patient, client or resident rounds, conferences and meetings where applicable.
