MACON COMMUNITY HOSPITAL  Position Description Department Name: Respiratory Therapy Employee Name: Job Title: Registered Respiratory Therapist Effective Date: Reports to (Title): Director, Respiratory Therapy Supervises: (Positions) None. I.Position Summary The RRT will provide services, timely and efficiently, at appropriate levels to all patients and in all settings served by thedepartment. The RRT will perform tasks and duties as outlined in the Respiratory Care Departments’ Policy and Procedure Manual and will assist in assigned administrative tasks, both basic and advanced, and will maintain clinical competencies through participation in educational and orientation programs. The RRT should also be able to provide advanced clinical expertise and education to departmental staff members. II.Position Requirements: A.Licensure/Certification/Registration: License-State of Tennessee, Registered/ABG-Endorsed, National Board forRespiratory Care; Certification-Basic life Support (CPR). B.Education: Graduate of Respiratory Care program accredited by the Joint Review Committee for Respiratory TherapyEducation (JRCRTE). C.Experience: Six months required, with critical care experience preferred. D.Special qualifications: Current licensure in State of Tennessee as a Respiratory Therapist. Good communication skillsboth orally and written. Computer skills are necessary. Ability to work with others as a team to ensure quality patient care. III.Degree of Supervision Required: Involves general guidance and direction by Department Director. The employee is expectedto perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures. IV. Ages of Patients Served:    This position requires competence in assessment, treatment, and/or care for the age groups indicated. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience. Physical Requirements: Required correct hearing and vision to within functional ranges. Requires frequent bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling and moving equipment. Requires sufficient manual dexterity to operate therapeutic equipment and draw blood samples. Must have full use of upper and lower extremities and the ability to walk up to three miles per shift. VII. Personal Protective Equipment: This position requires the use of personal protective equipment during various tasks/activities. Personal protective equipment includes, but is not limited to, gloves, masks and safety glasses. I have reviewed these job requirements and verify that I can perform all essential functions of this position. I understand that information regarding patients at this facility is confidential and is not to be disclosed without written authorization of the patient or authorized representative. I will discuss patient's information only in the course of my duties and never in open areas such as hallways, snack bar, etc., where it might be overheard by visitors or other patients, or outside of the hospital while off duty.
