Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Care and Assessment: Under medical direction, perform patient assessments, administer prescribed therapies and medications, and monitor patient progress, including any reactions to treatments.
  • Life Support and Airway Management: Initiate, monitor, and maintain life support systems and artificial ventilators. Perform airway care and maintenance, and participate in emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures.
  • Treatment Administration: Administer a wide range of respiratory care modalities, including intermittent positive pressure breathing, nebulizer treatments, chest physical therapy, and deep tracheal suctioning.
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping: Accurately document all care services, transcribe verbal orders, and maintain detailed records of equipment and supplies.
  • Patient and Family Education: Provide in-service training to patients, family members, and facility staff on the rationale and methodology of respiratory procedures to promote understanding and cooperation.
  • Equipment Management: Inspect, test, and maintain equipment, ensuring proper functionality and an adequate supply of necessary devices.
  • Professional Development: Attend educational programs and read professional journals to maintain and enhance technical skills and clinical competencies.

Requirements

  • A high level of knowledge in respiratory therapy and practice, demonstrated by the completion of an NBRC-approved and accredited program.
  • A minimum of one year of clinical practice experience under medical direction.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Current state licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
