Response Team Leader for Sumatera Floods Response Background After several days of heavy rain, flash floods and landslides struck Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra on November 26, causing fatalities, displacement, missing persons, and severe infrastructure damage that isolated communities and cut off access to essential supplies such as food and clean water. The number of casualties resulting from floods and landslides across Sumatra Island continues to increase. While certain areas are now accessible, numerous regions remain isolated and can only be reached through river or sea routes and by air. Save the Children Indonesia and its partners are working to save lives and alleviate the suffering of children and families affected in Aceh (Aceh Tamiang, Langsa, East Aceh, Central Aceh, Pidie Jaya, Bireun, Bener Meriah), North Sumatra (Langkat, Central Tapanuli, Sibolga), and West Sumatra (Agam and Padang) by restoring essential health, nutrition, protection, education, and basic services. Save the Children Indonesia joined in several clusters, namely: Education Health and Nutrition Child Protection Logistics Psychosocial Support The following is our focus on the disaster response. Health and Nutrition: We will provide health service, and ensure access to clean water, sanitation facilities, emergency latrines, hygiene kits distribution, and hygiene promotion to prevent the spread of waterborne and communicable diseases. Child Protection: Children are at a heightened risk of separation, trauma, and exploitation. Our response will establish Child-Friendly Spaces, deliver psychosocial support, strengthen reporting and referral mechanisms, and secure safe alternative care for separated or unaccompanied children. Education in Emergencies: To restore learning and stability, we will provide learning materials, train teachers and facilitators, support temporary learning spaces, and engage parents and communities to ensure children can safely return to education. We are looking for an Response Team Leader to work with SCIDN team and its partner to be part of response team. Role Purpose The primary responsibility of the Response Team Leader is to support the implementation of program in an emergency, transition and recovery setting. The Response Team Leader provides overall leadership in the field and is responsible for developing, coordinating and managing all emergency response activities. S/he coordinates liaison with the Humanitarian Team, and SCIDN technical advisors, and works towards developing, monitoring, and strengthening relationships with governmental and intergovernmental institutions, donors, other NGOs, key sub-recipients, and vendors, to implement SCIDN’ response outline. S/he is responsible for the health, well-being and safety of the emergency staff; program design planning and staffing; reporting and documentation; financial management and communication. What you will do: Leadership Lead, develop/review and implement a coherent response outline that contributes to SCIDN emergency response objectives. Create a shared vision and team cohesion. Manage the integrated programming and its operating principles and guidelines. Coordinate closely with Humanitarian Management Team, and country program technical advisors Provide leadership, management oversight, and technical direction for the response. Program Design, develop, and implement a transition/phase plan that is in accordance with the objectives of SCIDN Ensure high-quality performance and integrity standards in compliance with SCIDN policies and regulations. Report to SCIDN Senior Management Team and donors the achievements and results of the response. Strengthening systems for maintaining an overview of all staff activity. Responsible for team health and safety. Act as Safeguarding focal point until appropriate team member is assigned in coordination with the Safeguarding taskforce. Ensure all sector focal points are assigned and that assignments are handed over appropriately with each transitioning team. Focal points required include – child protection, WASH, Education, Mental Health, Safeguarding, access and disability, health and safety, and team health Human Resource Management Oversee the selection, training, and mentoring of qualified staff, recommend promotions, disciplinary action and termination, as needed. Supervise the day-to-day of the response team to ensure smooth and effective operations. Work with Human Resources to ensure compliance to local labor laws. Maintain open lines of communication with all field staff and partners Representation Able to represent SCIDN among local authorities, donors, United Nations, international and national NGOs. Develop strong working relationships with partners and actors in the emergency response. Participate in media relations, public outreach and awareness initiatives, including coordinating and responding to inquiries, acting as a spokesperson (if appointed) in the field for national and international media in coordination with the Advocacy Campaign and Government Relation (ACG) department. Administration Ensure that appropriate logistic, administrative and financial structures and procedures are established and maintained in accordance with SCIDN policies Ensure appropriate documentation for ease of handover team to team. Work with National Security focal point to ensure the security of all international and national staff when deployed. Ensure that appropriate security guidelines and procedures are established, maintained / updated regularly and adhered to by the response team. Policy Adherence Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within SCIDN and amongst beneficiaries served by SCIDN Adhere to the Code of Conduct, maintain humanitarian principles and respect international humanitarian law at all times. What we need from you: Bachelor's degree in any field, preferably in experienced to work with SCIDN 5-10 years of experience in a related field Experience in management, community engagement, stakeholder engagement and child participation Background and experience in children and/or youth program activities Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and as a team member Self-motivated and highly flexible individual who can manage multiple tasks and priorities.
