Braemar Retirement Centre (MacGowan Nursing Home) is an accredited 69 bed licensed Long Term Care facility located in Wingham, Ontario. Braemar is a proud RNAO Best Practice Spotlight organization and is working towards becoming a DementiAbility certified home who aims to provide a collaborative, person-centered environment for staff and residents alike.
We are excited to announce we currently have an opening for a professional, enthusiastic, compassionate Restorative Care Aide to join our team. Responsible to the Director of Recreation and working under the direct supervision of the Physio Therapist, the Restorative Care Aide is responsible for the provision of direct resident care in accordance with all organizational and legislative policies and procedures and expected professional conduct. In collaboration with the resident care team, the Restorative Care Aide ensures adherence to quality resident-focused programs and actively participates in continuous quality improvement activities.

Duties Include (but not limited to)

  • Observe and assist with Restorative Dining, as well as document meal intake and resident progress.
  • Ensure each resident’s physical, social, intellectual, spiritual, and sensory emotional needs are met through independent activities or group in accordance with Director’s direction.
  • Encourage residents who are isolated from others or who have limited social skills to have recreational interaction with others.
  • Assists in developing and updating the restorative interventions addressing the needs of the residents in collaboration of Physio Therapist.
  • Encourage residents to continue independent activities.
  • Observe and document the individual resident attendance, participation, reactions, and progress.
  • Use interventions to develop specific skills, while providing opportunities for exercise, mental stimulation, creativity, and fun.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Restorative Care Certificate as per the requirements of the Long-Term Care Homes Act and Regulations.
  • Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of a TB test (skin test or clear chest x-ray), and a minimum of 2 doses of COVID vaccine
  • Current CPR (preferred)
  • Additional training in the following areas would be an asset: DementiAbility Training, GPA, Person-Centered care, education in relation to working with clients with dementia/responsive behaviours, palliative education.
