POSITION SUMMARY:

Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation (TFN) is hiring a Restorative Justice Coordinator (RJC) to join the
Justice Department. The RJC will play a key role in weaving together traditional Indigenous
practices with the modern legal system. By bringing the provincial circuit court to Tla-o-qui-aht
territory, we aim to strengthen our connection with the provincial court, judges, crown
counsel, defence counsel, and legal aid. This initiative will provide our community with much-
needed access to justice services and support while honoring and integrating Tla-o-qui-aht
teachings, laws, and values. The RJC will ensure that the Indigenous perspective is present in
the courtroom, promoting a more inclusive, culturally responsive, and healing-focused justice
system for our people.
As the TFN Restorative Justice Coordinator (RJC), you will be at the forefront of
implementing a program that not only supports Tla-o-qui-aht individuals navigating the
justice system but also integrates our traditional knowledge and practices. You will serve
as a bridge, connecting the Tla-o-qui-aht people to the Canadian justice system in a way
that respects and reflects our values and worldview. Your role will involve providing
guidance, resources, and information to Tla-o-qui-aht clients throughout the justice
process, while ensuring that the provincial court is educated on the customs, languages,
and socio-economic realities of our community. In doing so, you will help foster mutual
respect and understanding, ensuring that our people are treated with dignity and that
our traditional teachings contribute to a more restorative and culturally relevant justice
process.
