Description:

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered healthcare professional to join our diverse team as a full-time Band 6 Resuscitation and Simulation Trainer for a fixed term of 12 months to cover maternity leave. The ideal candidate would, as a minimum, be an ILS/PILS provider with a keen interest in developing to instructor status and an enthusiasm to develop their simulation facilitation skills in support of the undergraduate and postgraduate medical programmes.
This role is varied across the resuscitation and simulation service with a strong emphasis on teaching and assessing all levels of Trust staff. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, flexible and motivated individual.

In conjunction with the Resuscitation & Simulation Manager, Resuscitation Officers and the Undergraduate Clinical Skills & Simulation Lead, the post holder will assist in the development of the service by participating in relevant training and audit.
Participate in all basic, intermediate and advanced levels of resuscitation training.
Deliver training and skills programmes specific to the Deteriorating Patient Pathway in accordance with relevant resuscitation, simulation and Trust policies and guidelines.
Assist in completing audits relevant to the service.
Participate in the programmes delivered within the Simulation Suite to include clinical skills teaching and debriefing.

Responsibilities:

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensure professional responsibility for keeping their own practice up to date, competent and relevant to the role and in accordance with the relevant professional body.
  2. To develop professionally within the field of resuscitation to maintain and progress own clinical, educational, and managerial level of competence.
  3. To develop professionally within the field of Simulation Based Education and become competent in the programme delivery.
  4. Participate in individual performance reviews, identifying own educational and training needs, objectives and achievements.
  5. Represent the Resuscitation & Simulation service locally, regionally, and nationally as required, promoting best practice.
  6. Ensure that all resuscitation training adheres to national guidelines.
    Corporate responsibilities
  7. To use personal effectiveness and knowledge to contribute to the development and delivery of a high-quality, cost-effective service in line with patient safety initiatives.
  8. Acquire, and maintain adequate levels of stock for all training.
  9. Ensure the equipment is clean, stored appropriately and stocks are replenished.

CLINICAL AND EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.To develop and deliver both basic and intermediate levels of training in a variety of flexible ways.
2. To assist the Resuscitation Officers in teaching and supporting on advanced courses as appropriate.
3. To undertake BLS Instructor annual updates.
4. To assist the department in undertaking audits relevant to the service.
5. To maintain accurate training records.
6. To be responsible for ensuring that training rooms and equipment are clean, tidy and ready for use.
7. To ensure feedback is collected for all training programmes.
8. To assist in the co-ordination and running of all externally accredited courses.
9. Participate in clinical simulation sessions, including teaching clinical skills.
10. Use specialist knowledge to assist with designing, developing and evaluating simulation-based activities.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Undertake specific projects in relation to resuscitation and simulation, in line with patient safety as directed by the Resuscitation & Simulation Manager, Resuscitation Officers and the Undergraduate Clinical Skills & Simulation Lead.
  2. Report any risks identified and where possible initiate preliminary corrective action in accordance with trust policies and guidelines to ensure patient safety.
  3. Participates in production of reports, policies, risk assessments and standard operating procedures across the service under the guidance of the Resuscitation Officers and the Undergraduate Clinical Skills & Simulation Lead.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To organise and plan own workload effectively.
  2. To assist the Resuscitation & Simulation Manager, Resuscitation Officers, and Undergraduate Clinical Skills & Simulation Lead in managing material resources across the service effectively.
  3. To be able to complete projects by designated deadlines.
  4. To ensure all Trust guidelines, policies and protocols are adhered to.
  5. To actively develop and support other staff within the Resuscitation & Simulation Service.
  6. To manage and support the technicians in their role and development pathways.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To actively participate in their own performance review.
  2. Ensure the safe use, cleaning and storage of all equipment used within the department.
  3. To be willing to travel between different sites / organisations to fulfil the requirements of the post.
  4. To develop and maintain a personal profile as directed by the relevant professional body.
  5. The post holder will adhere to their professional code of conduct
