AVAILABILITY NEEDS  * Must be able to work a minimum of 12 hours per week * For Fall 2025 must be available to work * Monday 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm * Friday 9:00 am - 1:00 pm * Saturday Rotations JOB SUMMARY Under the direction of the Bookstore Management, the Retail Associate – I is responsible for assisting with the coordination, development, and implementation of all daily functions within textbooks and course materials. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING. OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED. 1. Provide excellent guest service at all times 2. Demonstrate superior knowledge of all store products and services. 3. Assist customers in all aspects of service fulfillment. 4. Cross-train and work in all areas of stores as needed. 5. Perform sales support functions related to POS and e-commerce procedures. 6. General housekeeping, stocking, organizing, pricing, and merchandising duties. 7. Use computerized software to look up stock information and operate a cash register. 8. Receive, verify, sort and distribute goods. 9. Make on-campus deliveries and represent the store at campus events 10. Assist with clerical duties, research, and special projects 11. Answer telephone calls and emails, follow-up with appropriate personnel, as needed 12. Performs other duties as assigned, reasonably within the scope of the job. CONDITIONS OF POSITION THE CONDITIONS OF THIS POSITION ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF THOSE THAT MUST BE MET BY AN EMPLOYEE TO SUCCESSFULLY PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS JOB. REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS MAY BE MADE TO ENABLE INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES TO PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS. Work Schedule Work shifts will be assigned during regular Bookstore operating hours, which are generally Monday through Thursday from 7:00am to 7:00pm; Friday 7:00am to 5:00pm, and Saturday 10:00am to 4:30pm. Operations continue through the Summer and Winter sessions. Some campus closure dates and holidays are required. Shifts may vary to include mornings, afternoons, and evenings. Operational activity peaks at the beginning and end of academic semesters. The employee must be able to provide a minimum of 12 hours during academic semesters.   Physical Demands The employee will frequently need to move boxes, unpack inventory and stock shelves with merchandise. The employee must frequently be able to lift and/or move a minimum of 40 pounds. There will be long periods of time standing on their feet and moving around in a large building, and the employee will occasionally be required to sit, climb, balance, bend at the waist, push or pull, reach above shoulder level, stoop, and kneel. Some use of ladders to ascend/descend is occasionally required. The employee must comply with the University’s rules and regulations as well as the Beach Shops. Work Environment The employee is typically in a climate-controlled indoor environment within the retail location and occasionally has movement throughout the warehouse and outdoors, with exposure to weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to noisy. Occasionally the work environment will have high customer traffic at the beginning of each new semester, during sales, etc. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and/or experience The employee must be a current and active CSULB student enrolled in a minimum of 6 units. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations This position does not require any certificates, licenses or registrations.  Knowledge and Abilities The employee must demonstrate proficiency in both written and verbal communication in English. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with a commitment to providing excellent customer service. The employee must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. The employee must be proficient with PC, and Microsoft Office, Excel and Outlook.
