Axiom is supporting a leading Australian renewable energy company seeking an experienced lawyer or compliance professional to join its Melbourne-based legal team on an initial three-month contract. This role will provide critical support to the retail energy business, with a strong focus on Victorian energy retail regulation, compliance, and breach reporting. The successful candidate will work closely with commercial stakeholders and regulators, providing pragmatic legal advice across a broad range of regulatory and commercial matters in a fast-paced in-house environment. Responsibilities: Advise the business on Victorian energy retail regulatory requirements, providing practical legal guidance on day-to-day compliance and operational matters. Assess, manage, and coordinate regulatory breach reporting obligations under the Victorian energy framework, ensuring timely and accurate reporting. Partner with internal stakeholders and liaise with the Essential Services Commission (ESC) on regulatory compliance, reporting obligations, and related matters. Provide general commercial legal support across the retail energy business, advising on contractual, governance, risk, and broader regulatory issues. Requirements: 5+ years' PQE with experience advising on energy retail regulation, regulatory compliance, or commercial legal matters within the energy sector. Demonstrated knowledge of the Victorian energy retail regulatory framework, including breach reporting obligations and engagement with the Essential Services Commission (ESC). Strong commercial drafting and advisory skills, with the ability to provide pragmatic, business-focused legal advice across a broad range of matters. Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities in a dynamic in-house environment. Why Join Axiom?
