Job Summary K&L Wine Merchants is excited to be launching its first East Coast location in Manhattan, NY. We're looking for an exceptional Retail General Manager to lead both the in-store retail experience and the operational workflows connected to our e-commerce business. As an omnichannel retailer with a significant online presence, our Manhattan store will serve as both the premium wine and spirits retail destination and a critical operational hub supporting online orders, customer pick-ups, inventory coordination and order fulfilment. The ideal candidate is someone who understands the balance of customer-facing retail excellence and back-of-house e-commerce processes, bringing strong leadership, deep wine and spirits knowledge and the operational savvy required to run an omnichannel store. The Retail Manager will be responsible for oversight the store and its sales and operations teams to provide exemplary customer service, drive sales and location profitability, execute accurate and timely order fulfillment, ensure quality inventory management, develop internal talent, increase customer engagement, and maintain a well-merchandised, safe, and clean facility. They will actively manage both teams to ensure the store is aligned with company objectives and business needs by consistently setting expectations, modeling best practices, delegating responsibilities, coaching, and evaluating the performance of direct reports. They will build and foster a customer-centric environment and a team committed to providing welcoming, well-maintained shopping environment. They will facilitate company-wide collaboration by providing professional and prompt cross functional support. Finally, they are proficient in troubleshooting and problem solving at the highest level and act as the ultimate point of escalation for customer service issues at the retail facility. If this opportunity excites and interests you, we would love to meet you! Responsibilities Consistently deliver exceptional hospitality-focused in store experience. Engage with customers, collectors and local clientele to drive sales. Build, develop and lead a knowledgeable, service driven team by setting clear standards and goals and motivating teams to achieve outstanding performance across all store functions. Support staff development by facilitating their ongoing education, staff tastings and product training. Manage daily store operations including sales management, inventory control, merchandising, building/facilities management. Maintain merchandising standards and support featured products. Work in partnership with Buyers to support and execute in-store events, tastings, product/service launches and promotional programs. Monitor store KPIs, sales performance, inventory, labor, safety and P&L performance. Manage the store's financial performance through budgeting and sales analysis. Oversee BOPIS for efficiency and precise execution. They will oversee online order fulfilment workflows. Work in close partnership with leaders across all K&L stores and departments to drive the business forward. Oversee daily store operations, including sales management, inventory control, merchandising, and cash handling procedures. Manage employee hiring, training & development and performance management to maintain a positive and productive work environment. Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and legal requirements while maintaining excellent customer service standards. Oversee shift management by scheduling staff efficiently to meet store needs during peak hours while controlling labor costs. Utilize POS systems proficiently for transactions, reporting, and inventory tracking. Foster a team-oriented environment through training & development initiatives focused on leadership skills, retail sales techniques, and organizational skills. Skills 4+ years of luxury retail or hospitality management experience (wine & spirits preferred) Wine/Spirits certifications (WSET, CMS or equivalent) preferred. Strong understanding of omnichannel or e-commerce enabled retail environments. Strong operational skills. Hands-on leader comfortable with the dynamic and demanding nature of the retail environment. Excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to multitask efficiently across various responsibilities such as cashiering, stock control, order fulfilment, delivery routing & dispatching, shift management and customer service excellence. Proven ability to lead, train and motivate teams. leadership with proven supervising experience in retail or grocery store environments. Excellent negotiation skills paired with the ability to manage vendor relationships effectively. Skilled in managing budgets, sales targets, and financial reports with strong math capabilities. Experience in training & development programs aimed at elevating team performance and fostering professional growth.
