Midwest Co-op is currently accepting resumes for the position of Retail Location Manager. Under the direction of the Retail Division Manager, the Retail Location Manager is responsible for the overall performance and profitability of a MCS retail location specializing in farm supply, hardware, feed, and lifestyle products. This leadership role oversees all aspects of store operations, including staff management, budgeting, inventory control, customer service, merchandising, and compliance. The manager ensures alignment with co-operative values, drives business growth, and fosters a positive team culture that supports exceptional service and operational excellence. SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP * Hires, supervises, leads and develops retail staff to be technically competent, industry knowledgeable, and customer focused.  Encourages employees to learn new skills, expand abilities, and seek greater responsibilities. Provides support to the management team providing local information, market intelligence and competitor information. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS STORE OPERATIONS & CUSTOMER SERVICE * Ensure smooth daily operations and a clean, organized, and welcoming store environment * Resolve escalated customer concerns and promote co-operative values in all interactions * Oversee seasonal merchandising, signage, and promotional displays * Monitor store appearance, safety standards, and maintenance needs STAFF MANAGEMENT & SCHEDULING * Coordinate staff scheduling, timecard approvals, and payroll processes * Adjust staffing levels to meet seasonal demand and operational priorities * Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and service excellence * Lead performance management activities including goal setting, coaching, evaluations, and development planning * Handle conduct and performance issues professionally, ensuring timely and consistent application of disciplinary procedures in line with company policy INVENTORY & MERCHANDISING * Oversee inventory levels, product quality, and budget adherence * Ensure accurate product coding, pricing, descriptions, and system records * Lead inventory counts, variance reviews, and corrective actions * Maintain outdoor displays and seasonal upkeep (e.g., snow removal, lawn care) FINANCIALS, BUDGETING & VENDOR COORDINATION * Prepare and manage location budgets, including sales targets, expenses, and gross margin goals * Analyze financial reports and implement strategies to improve profitability * Approve product pricing within established guidelines * Select and manage vendor relationships to ensure quality, cost control, and customer satisfaction * Oversee ordering, receiving, and verification of shipment COMPLIANCE & ADMINISTRATION * Ensure adherence to all legislated and company policies (sales, credit, inventory, cash handling, health & safety) * Maintain current knowledge of energy, feed, and crop products, programs, and invoicing procedures * Support inter-branch collaboration and uphold MCS’s image and community presence * Ensure all licenses, certifications, and regulatory requirements are maintained. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS * Follow the Occupational Health and Safety act (OHSA) for supervisors:  ensure that a worker complies with the Act and regulations; ensure that any equipment, protective device or clothing required by the employer is used or worn by the worker; advise a worker of any potential or actual health or safety dangers known by the supervisor; if prescribed, provide a worker with written instructions about the measures and procedures to be taken for the worker’s protection; take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of workers.  * Administers the personnel policies of the company for employees supervised including selection, training and evaluation. * Participate in MCS training which includes, but not limited to, the mandatory Ministry of Labour course, MCS Health & Safety Standards and Policies, and Accessibility Policies (AODA). * Ensures that approved contractors have received and signed off on the H&S Contractor Package off form prior to work being performed. * Ensures that all licenses, certificates and regulatory requirements are maintained and followed by the location and MCS employees. Performs other duties as assigned.   REQUIREMENTS * High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in business, agriculture, retail management, or a related field is preferred * Minimum 3-5 years of leadership and/or management experience in retail or related industry. * Proven experience in customer service, inventory management, merchandising, and financial oversight. * Strong understanding of accounting principles and retail systems. * Proficient in Office 365 including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams * Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills * Ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and maintain professionalism under pressure   WORKING CONDITIONS * Primarily works within a retail store environment, including indoor areas, warehouse space, and outdoor grounds * May be exposed to seasonal weather while assisting with tasks such as vehicle loading, snow removal, or lawn maintenance * Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and the ability to lift up to 25 kg * May involve the use of ladders, forklifts, and other store-related equipment * Occasional extended hours may be required during peak periods or special events WHY WORK FOR US Midwest Co-op believes that taking care of our employees is essential to our business.
