SUMMARY  The Retail sales associate will be hired to work during the peak seasons, such as Fall and Spring meet.  If available, they will get the opportunity to work during Horse Sales and Breeders Cup events.  In addition to the Keeneland Shop there are three additional retail locations set up outside on the property.  They will be responsible for working on one or several of the retail sites. To perform this job successfully, Sales Associates need to demonstrate superior customer service in a professional and courteous manner.    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. * Understanding and adhering to the principles of the Keeneland PROMISE mission statement.  * Create a welcoming Keeneland experience for guests by delivering exceptional customer service and connecting with patrons providing product knowledge in a confident manner. * Complete tasks as directed by Retail Management Team for business needs.   * Ability to utilize and point of sales system and handle cash & credit transactions correctly. * For the outside locations one will be responsible for packing and unpacking products in a orderly manner. * Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with all team members and provide support to the team through sharing knowledge.  * During race meets one is expected to work the entire race meet, if necessary.   QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Previous retail experience preferred.  * Available to work on a flexible schedule based upon business needs for race meets. * Must be able to stand for at least 8 hours. * When scheduled for one of the outside locations one must be able to handle all weather conditions and dress accordingly.   * Ability to communicate effectively with guests and employees. * Ability to maneuver around sales floor and stockroom. * Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently. * Ability to receive feedback and act when appropriate. * Having a team work mentality   EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE  High school education; or up to one-month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.   LANGUAGE SKILLS  Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, purchase orders and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to speak Spanish or French is a plus.   MATHEMATICAL SKILLS  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.   REASONING ABILITY  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to communicate with customers in a professional and courteous manner.   PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
