SUMMARY: The Retention Support Specialist supports the Office for Community Belonging and Student Success, as well as the Retention Steering Committee, tracking student academic progress, identifying at-risk students, and connecting them with proactive support.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to build rapport with students and create a supportive environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to develop efficient processes for accurate data entry, storage, and reporting.
  • Understanding of student information systems and their full functionality.
  • Capable of identifying problems, analyzing data, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Familiarity with academic policies, student support services, and other relevant resources.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a higher education environment or a close equivalent.
  • Evangelical Christian commitment and lifestyle consistent with the university’s mission as described in our Statement of Faith.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in Retention Steering Committee meetings to take notes, provide insight regarding at-risk students, and assign follow-up tasks to Committee members as needed.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of early alert systems and intervention strategies designed to improve student retention and success.
  • Monitor student progress, identify at-risk students, and recommend proactive support.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Office for Community Belonging & Student Success and Athletics.
  • Connect students with appropriate campus and community resources, such as tutoring, counseling, disability services, and financial aid.
  • Work with the Registrar’s Office and Enrollment Management to track and maintain retention-related data.
  • Work with the Marketing & Communications team to send out Early Warnings to students.
  • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of retention programs and initiatives and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Assist VP of CBSS with the coordination of Freshman Seminar groups.
  • Other duties as assigned.
