An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Retirement Consultant to join a highly respected financial services provider in Manchester. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about delivering exceptional client service and possesses deep knowledge of pensions, particularly Self-Invested Personal Pensions (SIPPs). You will be part of a supportive team that values collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth. The organisation is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where your expertise will be recognised and your contributions will make a real difference to clients’ retirement journeys. Flexible working opportunities and a focus on work-life balance ensure you can thrive both professionally and personally.

  • Join a collaborative team dedicated to providing best-in-market retirement solutions and nurturing long-term client relationships.
  • Benefit from flexible working opportunities and ongoing training designed to support your professional development in the ever-evolving pensions landscape.
  • Work in a supportive environment where your technical expertise is valued, and your input helps shape the future of retirement services.

What you’ll do:

As a Retirement Consultant based in Manchester, you will play a pivotal role in guiding clients through their retirement planning journey. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve responding to pension-related queries across multiple channels, ensuring each client receives tailored advice that reflects their individual circumstances. You will use your expertise to demystify complex pension rules, making them accessible for clients at all stages of their retirement journey. By acting as an escalation point for more challenging queries, you will support both clients and colleagues alike. Your ability to manage sensitive data responsibly, stay abreast of regulatory changes, and contribute ideas for service improvements will be key to your success. In this role, you will also have the chance to participate in special projects that further enhance the client experience while developing strong professional networks within the organisation.

  • Respond promptly and accurately to all client pension enquiries, ensuring each interaction meets defined service levels and upholds the highest standards.
  • Understand clients’ unique needs, expectations, and behaviours, tailoring responses and materials to provide clear, relevant guidance at every stage of their retirement planning journey.
  • Explain complex pension concepts-including both accumulation and de-accumulation phases of SIPPs-in straightforward terms that resonate with clients and third parties alike.
  • Serve as an escalation point for the SIPP Queries team, sharing your product knowledge with colleagues across the wider Personal Investor Service group.
  • Communicate effectively with clients via phone and email, translating intricate pension rules into accessible information that empowers informed decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate client data for internal record keeping, demonstrating strong risk awareness and attention to detail in all administrative tasks.
  • Act as a subject matter specialist by staying current with evolving retirement issues, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Provide constructive feedback and recommendations to enhance products and services, supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the team.
  • Participate in special projects that drive process enhancements while building strong professional relationships with both internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Adapt positively to change, championing excellence in every aspect of your work while maintaining flexibility under pressure.

What you bring:

To excel as a Retirement Consultant, you will bring significant experience from within the pensions sector-ideally with hands-on exposure advising clients on SIPP products. Your background should include not only technical knowledge but also a genuine passion for helping others achieve their retirement goals. You are known for your empathetic approach, always taking time to understand each client’s unique situation before offering guidance. Your communication style is warm yet precise; you take pride in making complicated topics easy for anyone to grasp. Organisational skills are second nature to you-you keep meticulous records while juggling multiple tasks seamlessly. Above all, you thrive in environments where teamwork is valued just as much as individual expertise. Your willingness to share knowledge with colleagues contributes positively to the overall success of the team.

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience that demonstrates your commitment to professional growth within financial services.
  • Relevant pension qualifications such as R04 or equivalent are highly desirable, showcasing your technical proficiency in retirement planning.
  • Proven experience explaining SIPP benefit accumulation strategies and retirement options directly to clients over at least five years within the industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that enable you to build rapport quickly with clients from diverse backgrounds while communicating complex information clearly.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities that allow you to translate technical jargon into language everyone can understand.
  • Strong analytical thinking paired with effective problem-solving skills ensures you can address client concerns thoughtfully and thoroughly.
  • Meticulous attention to detail combined with sound judgement supports accurate record keeping and risk-aware decision making.
  • Exceptional time management and organisational skills empower you to handle multiple priorities efficiently without compromising quality or care.
