Job Description:
The Department does not sponsor non-immigrant work visas for this position.
This position is responsible for the supervision of the employees and work
activities of the Taxpayer Assistance group for Individual Income Tax - Lincoln,.
Under general direction, the Revenue Agent Supervisor plans, assigns, directs, reviews and evaluates the work activities of subordinate Revenue Agent Seniors and Revenue Agents; participates in conducting meetings with other governmental agencies and tax associations.
Job Duties include:
1. Manages and directs the work activities of the Lincoln Taxpayer Assistance (TPA) staff in the Individual Income Tax area.
2. Coordinates staffing needs to assure adequate staffing for the busiest times.
3. Trains, plans, assigns, delegates, reviews and authorizes the work of assigned TPA staff to attain work goals and consistent application of administrative and program policies, procedures, statutes, rules and regulations.
4. Confers with the TPA Revenue Section Manager to develop policies, procedures and standards.
5. Confers with other Supervisors to identify the type and impact of work problems and to formulate possible solutions.
6. Supervises subordinate agents in the Individual Income Tax area of Taxpayer Assistance.
7. Meets with taxpayers to resolve account issues and educate the taxpayer in their responsibilities.
8. Completes special projects as assigned.
9. Develops work performance standards and evaluates work performance of subordinate staff.
10. Coaches employees regarding career development and/or performance improvement
11. Recommends personnel actions such as promotions, disciplinary actions, grievances, and separations.
12. Provides answers to staff or taxpayers on the most complex regulations in the the Individual Income Tax program.
13. Identifies employee training needs and career advancement potential.
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s Degree in business or related field plus two years of experience with tax return preparation, tax compliance, business ownership and operation, account research and analysis, or interpretation and application of policies, laws, rules, or regulations and supervisory or work leader experience. Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
Knowledge of: Federal and state tax laws, rules, regulations, forms and tax returns; mathematics and accounting; business operations and practices; Revenue policies and procedures.
Skills in: assessing and evaluating employee performance and resolving interpersonal conflicts.
Ability to: effectively communicate to convey clear and concise information; comprehend individual tax programs; exercise independent judgment and decisiveness; identify employee strengths and weaknesses; determine training needs;
interpret complex tax issues; plan and assign work of others; work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment; coach employees to develop skills and knowledge and improve performance; maintain a positive attitude and present
information in a manner that achieves cooperation.
