Description IMPORTANT: This role requires at least 2 years of direct healthcare Room & Board billing experience. Candidates without this experience will not be considered. Onsite Position – Not Remote or Hybrid At Northern Illinois Hospice, the Revenue Cycle Accountant is responsible for managing hospice and palliative care billing with a strong emphasis on Room & Board reimbursement. This is a high-accountability, detail-intensive healthcare revenue cycle position requiring independent problem-solving and strong regulatory knowledge. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred 2+ years of health care Room & Board billing experience required Strong knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance billing in an assisted living or skilled care facility, preferred ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS proficiency If you do not have direct healthcare Room & Board billing experience, please do not apply. Revenue Cycle Accountant Responsibilities Manage the revenue cycle for hospice and palliative care, including collections, cash posting, and AR Prepare, submit, research, and resolve claims with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers Research denials, submit appeals, and resolve underpayments Monitor AR aging, unbilled claims, and accounts over 90 days Produce monthly revenue and AR reporting Ensure compliance with hospice, Medicare, HIPAA, and payer regulations Reconcile EMR and accounting systems and maintain audit-ready records Respond to patient and family billing inquiries with professionalism and care Work Environment 100% onsite position (not eligible for remote or hybrid work) Monday - Friday, 8:15am - 4:45pm Collaborative, mission-driven environment Pay & Benefits The Revenue Cycle Accountant salary range is $47,000 – $67,988, based on experience and education, plus a generous benefits package including medical, dental, vision, PTO, company-paid life and disability insurance, and a 401(k) with match.
