JOB OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Hydroelectric Plant Engineer to provide technical leadership and guidance for the operation, maintenance, and commissioning of hydroelectric facilities. This role involves planning, organizing, and overseeing inspections, tests, installations, and maintenance to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant performance. The successful candidate will support project management initiatives, implement design changes, and maintain compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and internal procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from a PEO-accredited university.
  • Active, unrestricted membership as a Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO) in good standing.
  • Proven experience in hydroelectric engineering, including commissioning, operations, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of departmental procedures, contracts, and administrative processes within hydroelectric facilities.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and ability to travel to remote locations on short notice.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert technical advice and guidance on hydroelectric plant systems, equipment, and operations.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct inspections, installations, testing, maintenance, and renovations for plant equipment.
  • Identify technical deficiencies, recommend remedial measures, and implement approved design changes.
  • Support project management by coordinating multi-disciplinary inputs, preparing investment justifications, and monitoring project cost and schedule performance.
  • Oversee contractor work, including preparing specifications, evaluating tenders, and resolving performance issues.
  • Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and assist in departmental budgeting and business planning.

  • Participate in cross-functional studies, research initiatives, and training programs.
