About the role
This is a 15 month max term contract to provide tailored support in 1st Line of Defence Risk capabilities for the business to effectively identify and manage operational risk. It also has responsibility for overseeing the Compliance functions of Doctors’ Health Fund (DHF). The role will partner with the business supporting sound risk management practices in line with the Avant Operational Risk Framework, including providing support to the business in identification of operational risks and controls, identifying areas for key controls improvement in a way that improves business efficiency, effectiveness and deliver on business objectives

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide support in the implementation of a consistent and holistic application of the Operational Risk Framework across the relevant business line:
  • Support in the implementation of frameworks, policies and processes to support the business.
  • Drive quarterly Risk Owner reviews, assisting Risk Owners understand their Risk Profile, key drivers and mitigating controls. Ensure annual Risk Control Self Assessments (RCSA), including Control Assurance Program (CAP) are conducted on a timely basis and to requisite levels of quality
  • Evaluate, monitor compliance to and support Subject Matter Experts with the identified controls in the RCSA and CAP including the Quality Assurance (QA) process
  • Monitor and review the business risks to identify, assess, and escalate changes in the profile. This includes projects that may have a material change to the existing business environment, i.e. evaluating the Risk in Change.
  • Assist in compiling Risk Management reporting including risk profile, incidents and deep dive reports
  • Deliver tailored Risk Management training across DHF
  • Assist in the Quarterly DHF Operational Risk Committee meetings
  • Ensure the business is compliant with company policies, procedures and regulatory obligations:
  • Maintain compliance with APRA, ASIC and other risk management obligations
  • Monitor, review and communicate regulatory and legislative changes that may impact DHF and maintain the Regulatory Change register.
  • Conduct annual reviews and alignment of Operational Resilienece activites.
  • Coordinate periodic reviews of DHF company policies in the policy register.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day monitoring, management and visibility of issues and incidents:
  • Own and manage the business line incident and issues management process – including understanding the commercial and risk & compliance implications of risk incidents arising in the business line, and ensuring compliance with the incident management and reporting framework. Where control or process failures have occurred, ensure appropriate root-cause analysis is performed and remediation activities implemented.
  • Ensuring risk treatment plans are adequately constructed, and implemented on a timely basis.
  • Lead risk profile reviews with Risk Owners, sharing insights and trends in the risk and compliance environment and make appropriate recommendations for action:
  • Assist in maintenance of the Material Risk register, ensuring regular reviews
  • Assist in development and reporting of risk treatment plans, control self-assessment action items, APRA and Internal Audit action items on a timely basis
  • Work in co-ordination with Avant 2nd Line of Defence risk team to review operational risks and controls
  • Provide assistance in the identification of emerging trends associated with existing business activities and business change proposals
  • Participate in risk assessments of existing and new material business risks, including activities and decisions affecting the Avant Mutual Group risk profile
  • Contribute to personal and team development:
  • Maintain and take charge of professional development in conjunction with line manager.
  • Participate in industry forums and professional groups.
