Duties and Responsibilities
Organization Setting and Reporting Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG), UNDRR has over 150 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. Specifically, UNDRR guides, monitors, analyses and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyses action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk working with U.N. Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians and the science and technology community. The consultant will be home-based and will be working under the supervision of the Head of UNDRR Office in Bonn, the consultant will carry out the following tasks. 1. Assess risk knowledge capacities of selected countries within the assigned region using the Pillar 1/Risk Knowledge capacity assessment tool, by rating the capacities of each country based on the EW4All indicator system and rating scale, and populating data and information on a risk knowledge gap analysis checklist for a sub-set of assigned countries. 2. Collect data from various sources, including government and intergovernmental reports, academic literature, and reports/knowledge materials from non-governmental organizations and network, and document them as the means of verification (MOV) for the ratings provided in the risk knowledge capacity assessment tool and the gap analysis checklist. 3. Compile a directory of government agencies and non-government organizations from each country assessed that may be relevant for validation of the completed assessments. 4. Present assessment results for the set of countries assigned to UNDRR officers.

Fluency in both English and Arabic is required.
