About CARE
CARE Controls Audit and Risk Excellence (CARE) is a key component of Diageo’s governance framework, promoting the improvement of governance, risk management, controls and compliance by:
- Giving independent assurance over the quality of management of key risks.
- Supporting Diageo to carry out clear standards on governance, risk management controls and compliance, and to maintain excellent management assurance processes.
- Supporting the Audit Committee and Executive management to understand Diageo’s key risks and risk management activity across the business.
The role will be a part of a global, diverse and inclusive team of approximately 60+ individuals based across hubs including London, New York City, Bangalore, Budapest, Bogota and Shanghai.
Qualification, Experience & Skills
Beef up risk management stuff
- Proven experience in a risk function of a large international company or Big 4 in the area of risk management.
- MBA or degree or equivalent experience in risk management would also be beneficial.
- Excellent quantitative and analytical skills.
- Functional excellence in best practice risk management approaches include predictive risk analysis.
- Proven experience of building, developing and sustaining relationships with key partners at all levels. Able to influence and take strategic decisions across the business.
- Strong interpersonal skills - ability to communicate effectively at all levels, internally & externally, written & verbal. Ability to provide risk reporting tailored to the relevant audience.
- Possesses a high energy level, intellectual curiosity and strong work ethic with a commitment to continuous improvement in a dynamic and changing environment.
Job Description
The purpose of the role is to support the head of risk to take an active and independent leadership role in supporting and challenging the Diageo Board, Executive and Business Leaders to set and deliver an appropriate risk management strategy that aids delivery of long-lasting holistic business performance. This includes equipping the Audit Committee and ARC to enact appropriate oversight of the risk management agenda.
This includes but is not limited to:
- Supporting the production of papers for various Committees / key partners including the Audit Committee, CFO, AC Chair etc
- Working with the CARE LT, develop and implement a forward-looking vision for risk management. Leverage best practices internally and externally and bring innovative ways that will help drive greater efficiency and effectiveness.
- Refresh Diageo’s principal risks and mitigation plans through an iterative process with senior management enabling the Board to identify, analyse, understand and handle current and emerging material risks within its business. Incorporate any external developments in governance, risk and control field including any regulatory or technological developments or changes which could significantly impact Diageo.
- Support the ARC and Audit Committee to periodically review and improve the Global Risk Management Standard and Global Risk Appetite. Provide meaningful reporting for the AC and ARC and other decision makers as necessary that helps them reach conclusions on the effectiveness of the risk management framework; the completeness and appropriateness of the risk identification and analysis, ongoing effectiveness of risk controls, and prioritisation and management of action plans; exceptions to risk appetite and risk tolerances.
- Working with the CARE LT, provide insight on Diageo’s highest risk areas. Understand the profile of risk across the business, with particular focus on new complex risks, working with subject matter experts and using external networks to help management fully understand and manage these risks, in line with Diageo’s risk appetite.
- Take part in the execution of audit assignments to test and assess the implementation of a strong risk management framework and provide an opinion on whether key existing or emerging risks are being appropriately handled. Provide insights and solutions that promote effective and efficient business governance, enhanced controls and better risk management.
