Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future. Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer, which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security. We currently have an opportunity for a Risk Manager based in Canberra to work on NSSG – MIWS projects. What You’ll Do This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including: Lead risk planning, engagement, and coordination with Department stakeholders. Deliver detailed project reporting on risks, progress, emerging trends, and opportunities. Provide quality assurance for documentation, ensuring accuracy and consistency across briefs and reports. Oversee delivery, commercial, and sustainment teams’ progress, performance, and review activities. Manage Directorate-level project risks, ensuring risk‑treatment and issue‑management plans are aligned across functional teams and resources What You’ll Bring Proven experience in project risk management within government, defence, or complex program environments. Strong analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to identify trends, issues, and opportunities. Excellent written communication skills with high attention to detail and experience in quality-assuring documentation. Ability to coordinate and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and senior stakeholders. Experience maintaining or operating within structured Risk Management Systems and frameworks. Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
