The project:
The role is within the chief infrastructure office of a semi-state organisation in Ireland responsible for the delivery of high voltage station and circuit projects as well as upgrade and refurbishment projects on the existing transmission network. The risk manager must have experience of the project delivery process for large capital projects preferably the offshore energy sector and have a relevant risk qualification by a recognised industry body

  • You will manage delivery from project inception/brief, through design development and planning, contractor procurement and construction phase in accordance with the overall delivery program and agreed project milestones.
  • You will manage tasks and associated deliverables in support of the associate director and other senior leaders, alongside the wider project and client teams, to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of the project.
  • Implementing risk management processes within the client team in alignment to the Chief Infrastructure Office (CIO) Risk Management Policy and client’s group enterprise risk management framework.
  • Work closely with the CIO risk manager to ensure consistency in the risk management approach is achieved across the project.
  • Provide insight into the implementation of the CIO risk management improvement plan for continuous improvement, with a particular focus on application of best practice risk management, auditability, consistency and traceability.
  • Challenging risk information to enhance the quality of risk data so that it is robust, stands up to scrutiny and reflective of the programme and project environment.
  • Facilitate regular workshops for the offshore teams with multiple disciplines at programme and project level to identify, evaluate and respond to risks.
  • Lead on regular reporting on risk status, risk trending and being proactive in pursuing risk owners for status on their assigned risks
  • Assist the programme and project teams in offshore with the identification and development of appropriate risk management responses which are measurable and specific.
  • Lead the performance of quantitative risk analysis to quantify programme/project risk exposure and integrate risk with cost and schedule, when/if required.
  • Arrange risk training and coaching team members in coordination with the CIO risk manager to implement a consistent approach on the project as per client’s policy .
  • Actively articulating and promoting the benefits and requirement of risk management with the project and programme teams.
  • Maintenance of the offshore project and programme risk registers and other additional risk information including maintaining quality control of risk data and reporting.
  • Review and update offshore-related risks at enterprise level in Pentana with key stakeholders.
  • Liaise with the controls and performance team aligning risk, schedule, and cost for integrated controls.
  • Performing other activities as and when required from the programme controls lead.

You’ll need to have:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience working in programme and project risk management.
  • Chartership or membership of a professional body, NFQ 8, relevant leadership and management training.
  • Experience offshore energy sector desirable. Similar experience in large capital projects in power, utilities or infrastructure is a requirement.
  • Experience in defining, evaluating, improving, or implementing risk management processes/plans/approaches.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey complex risk insights to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Experience engaging with and reporting effectively at senior management level.
  • Familiarity with several risk standards, frameworks or approaches (ISO31000, COSO Enterprise Risk Framework, PMI, APM, Orange Book).
  • Familiarity with at least one risk database tool (Pentana, ARM, Risk Controller or similar).
  • Familiarity with at least one risk modelling tool (Primavera Risk Analysis, @risk, Safran).
  • Experience undertaking quantitative risk analyses.
  • Practical experience of risk workshop facilitation.
  • Experience of interfacing risk with other project controls disciplines is desirable.
  • A risk qualification or similar is desirable by an industry body (IRM, PMI, APM, IIA).
  • Experience in working across multiple disciplines at project and programme level.

You’ll also have:

  • Membership of RICS, CIOB, APM, ICE or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.
  • Property or infrastructure project management expertise.
  • Commercial and financial acumen.
  • Experience of leading parts of projects within large, diverse teams.
  • Experience of developing and forming relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on.
