Description
Position Description:  The RMA technician performs quality control inspections, checks, and tests of products and supplies to determine if received items meet the Requirements needed for the business. The technician records data, takes appropriate pictures and maintains completed records of inspections. The technician also assists Operations and Quality Manager with investigations into part discrepancies. The technician is familiar with standard inspection concepts, practices, and procedures and the use of calibrated measuring and test equipment ranging from handheld tools to sophisticated electronic analyzers. General Duties and Responsibilities: * Process customer returned material (RMAs), including inspection, functional testing, analysis, and documentation of findings. * Inspect and testvendorreturn material for warranty or repair, documenting results and supporting vendor disposition decisions. * Evaluate returned optical transceivers and electronic components todeterminecondition, visible defects, failure indicators, and compliance to applicable requirements. * Create andmaintaininspection reports, failure summaries, andsupportingdocumentation (including photographs) in designated quality, ERP, or ticketing systems. * Identify, document, and segregate nonconforming or suspect material; escalate issues to Quality or Engineering to support investigation and resolution. * Communicate RMA findings and status to Quality, Engineering, Operations, Customer Support,Vendorsand other stakeholders asrequired. * Work with Finance and Quality to supportappropriate dispositionand resolution of vendor RMAs,Incoming Inspection,and Operational Support (Secondary Duties) * Perform incoming inspection and basic functional testing of optical transceivers and electronic components asrequiredto support receiving and inventory disposition. * Monitor inventory items flagged for additional inspection or testing to support operational workflow. * Maintain calibrated inspection and test equipmentand ensure proper use. * Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work areain accordance withsafety and quality standards. * Support investigations into part discrepancies andassistwith root cause data collection. * Assistwith quality system activities, including ISO 9001 compliance, audits, training, and continuous improvement initiatives,and otherduties asassigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Experience with inspection and testing ofoptical and RFcomponents  * Experience using mechanical and electronic measuring and test equipment,includingDigital Meters  * Experience reading and interpreting drawings,specificationsand procedures. * Excellent vision (may bewith corrective lenses) * Excellent planning,analyticaland organizational skills. * Strong PC systems and software application skills (Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.). * Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks with various deadlines. * Familiarity with ERP Systems  * JIRA Ticket-Tracking software and ERP/MRP experience preferred * Maintains a clean, safe, and unobstructed work area. Education and/or Experience: * Associate degree in electronics, engineering technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience. * 2–4 years of experience in quality inspection, electronics testing, or RMA processing preferred. Physical Job Requirements: This position requires working in a warehouse and quality inspection environment with moderate noise, occasional dust, chemical odors, and varying temperatures. The role involves frequent standing, walking, and handling small optical and electronic components using fine motor skills and precision tools. Strong visual acuity is needed to inspect parts, identify defects, and review detailed documentation, with or without corrective lenses. The employee may occasionally lift or move materials up to 25 pounds, and up to 40 pounds with assistance. The position also requires repetitive hand movements for testing and computer work, as well as the ability to sit or stand for extended periods and maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
