Overview Registered Nurse Emergency Department Grundy County Memorial Hospital As-Needed The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the direct and indirect provision of professional nursing care for the patients in the Emergency Department (ED). The RN is accountable for ongoing evaluation and documentation of all components of care delivered to patients, including coordination and direct supervision of the patient care team. Responsibilities Provide professional nursing care within RN scope of practice in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. Administer medications, obtain supplies/equipment, and ensure accurate documentation in the electronic health record. Support Med Surg and other departments as needed while maintaining safety, sanitation, and infection control standards. Assess and interpret patient data, apply critical thinking, and implement appropriate plans of care. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care, communicate changes, and ensure safe handoffs. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, unit-specific tasks, and orientation of new staff. Respond to Rapid Response and Code events and assist with transfers, patient death, and organ donation as needed. Provide patient and family education, including discharge instructions and follow-up care. Serve as a clinical resource and oversee staff performance during off-shifts, ensuring standards of care are met. Act as House Supervisor when assigned, including rounding on departments, coordinating bed placement, implementing incident command, and serving as a central point of contact in the absence of leadership. Qualifications Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program. License(s)/Certification(s): RN current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa. Must possess and maintain current BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and Dependent Adult and Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter certification as outlined per policy.
