Responsibilities Collects current symptoms, as well as a detailed patient history and then consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient cares and interventions. Performs triage, while considering both physical and psychosocial elements. Manages basic life support needs and stabilizes patients until the attending physician is available, based upon nursing standards and protocol. Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology. Records patients’ current vital signs per standard. Works directly with physicians, assisting them during exams, diagnostic testing and treatments. Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, intravenous) and records prescribed medications. Qualifications Education: Successfully completed an accredited nursing program required. All newly licensed RNs with less than six (6) months of acute RN experience at the time of application are required to successfully complete the Nurse Residency program BSN Preferred Experience: Prefer one (1) year of Emergency Department clinical experience or demonstrated clinical efficiency. License(s)/Certification(s): Valid Nursing License with authorization to work in Iowa required Basic Certified Life Support certification required Must possess Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or obtain within 6 months of hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within 6 months from date of hire required Trauma Nurse Core Course required within one year of hire. Must obtain NIHSS education within 90 days of hire and maintain every two years thereafter. Completion of six hours of stroke education prior to the end of orientation and annually required. MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behaviors) certified within the first 6 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment (renewal every year) required.
Responsibilities
