Description Christ Health Center is seeking a RN/LPN who wants to be a part of providing high-quality, distinctively Christian care, addressing medical and spiritual healthcare needs for the underserved in Birmingham, Alabama. This position operates out of our Behavioral Health Clinic and will provide nursing care for patients with behavioral health disorders under the direction of our staff psychiatrist. Reporting directly to the Director of Psychiatry for all matters, including job duties, performance evaluations, approval of leave, and for other assignments as deemed necessary for the benefit of Christ Health Center. Uses Telephone triage protocols for nurses as a guide for clinical advice and defers to providers when answers are unclear. Delivers clear and comprehensive patient and family education on treatment plans, medication instructions, provider directives, and follow-up expectations in accordance with established protocols and the clinic’s triage system. Conducts comprehensive chart reviews and provides support to providers and patients, including preparation of letters, completion of forms, coordination of medical records requests, management of referral follow up, and other essential administrative or clinical needs. Administer medications (Long Acting Injectables) per provider order and scope of practice; perform phlebotomy and point-of-care testing as needed. Actively monitors and maintains cleanliness, organization, and supply levels in the lab, nursing stations, and all clinical work areas; communicates weekly inventory needs to the Clinic Lead to support uninterrupted clinical workflows. Recognize mental health needs, cultural considerations, and safety concerns when supporting patients. Respond to patient calls, voicemails, and portal messages within CHC standards. Report abnormal findings, urgent concerns, or significant patient status changes to the Clinical Lead, or provider immediately. Document clearly and comprehensively all patient encounters, telephone calls, portal messages, and education provided. Assist with workflows, scheduling, and general office tasks as assigned. Participate in huddles with the Core Care Team to review clinical priorities, patient needs, and safety concerns. Support clinic flow by helping coordinate patient movement and provider efficiency. Relieve or substitute for staff in other clinical areas as needed to support clinic operations. Attend staff meetings, in-service education sessions, quality assurance reviews, and risk-management programs. Maintain constructive, compassionate, trauma-informed communication with patients, families, and staff. Performs other duties as assigned Requirements Required Skills/abilities Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Current RN license. Current CPR certification preferred 1 year psychiatric or behavioral health experience is preferred LPN or Social Worker Attendance Standards Punctual and dependent for assigned/confirmed shifts Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence and reports; Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients, visitors, and other employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio and percent. Reasoning Ability The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense. The ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events) and to convey the information to others. Physical/Mental Demands Work requires the ability to lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds Work requires ability to carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Work requires ability to sit +/- 90% of the time. Work requires ability to stoop and bend, to reach, and grab with arms and hands; manual dexterity and to communicate with others. This position is classified as OSHA Personal Exposure Risk Category I, meaning the employee performs tasks that routinely involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, or other potentially infectious materials as a normal part of their role.
