Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The nurse will assist with meeting the physical, emotional, health and safety needs of the patients as medically indicated and ordered by the MD. As well as:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and adherence to Agency policies, nursing scopes of practice.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper equipment use and ensures all necessary equipment and supplies are present.
  • Demonstrates ability to properly provide for the nutritional needs of the patient.
  • Recognizes and honors Patient Rights.
  • Maintains a non-judgmental attitude towards patients and their families, and coworkers regarding lifestyle, race, religion, personal beliefs and ethnicity.
  • Consistently practice Universal Precautions and other infection control measures as appropriate.
  • Practices safe work habits to protect the patient and the nurse reports unsafe working conditions.
  • Attends appropriate in-services; meets mandated reporting requirements and self-directed learning for professional growth.
  • Complete all assigned shifts as scheduled. Communicate effectively with Agency staffing regarding schedule.
  • Appearance is professional, following Agency guidelines.
  • Performs nursing duties as assigned by a supervisor; demonstrates willingness to accept other assignments due to changing school care needs.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Current California Nursing License
  • Current BLS Card
  • Utilizes the nursing process to monitor, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
  • Perform nursing care which can include enteral feedings, medication administration, tracheostomy care and respiratory treatments while monitoring for any change of condition.
  • Excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, basic math skills.
  • Must be able to communicate with clients, families, school staff, and other health care workers. Speech clarity, speech recognition and written expression are vital abilities for performing this nursing job.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. with or without assistance and must be able to stand, walk, bend, and stretch as required for client care.
