The Registered Nurse (Operating Room) will serve as a perioperative nurse providing a full range of surgical nursing services in a multi-service operating room supporting complex and extensive surgical procedures. Position Snapshot Location: Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC), 1 Jarrett White Road, Honolulu, HI; Desmond Doss Health Clinic, Building 683/O, Waianae Ave, Schofield Barracks, HI; and Warrior Ohana Medical Home, 91-1010 Shangri-la St., Kapolei, HI. Department: Deputy Commander for Surgical Services (DCSS) – Surgery Schedule: Service is provided in coordination with MTF operating hours; specific two-week schedules are provided one month in advance. Alternate work schedules and telework are not authorized. Holidays: May be required to work federally recognized holidays (compensated at the regular rate). Key Responsibilities Coordinate patient care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionals; facilitate optimal outcomes in clinical care, quality, and cost effectiveness. Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established MTF policies, procedures, and guidelines. Perform physical exams and health histories; provide health promotion, counseling, and education; administer medications, wound care, and personalized interventions. Direct and supervise care provided by other healthcare professionals; make patient care assignments based on scope of practice and skill level; recognize adverse signs/symptoms and react in emergencies. Serve as an Operating Room Nurse providing perioperative care for patients of all ages undergoing major surgical procedures (dental rehabilitation, cesarean childbirth, general, gynecological, orthopedic, neurological, genito-urology, ophthalmology, plastic/reconstructive, podiatry, thoracic, vascular, and ENT). Perform circulating roles; ensure sterile technique; anticipate the surgical team's needs; collaborate with surgeons to plan and implement efficient, cost-effective surgical care; may circulate or scrub to support cases. Maintain aseptic technique; ensure accuracy of sponge, instrument, and needle counts and adequacy of supplies; review and edit surgeon's preference cards. Set up, use, reprocess, and maintain unit/department-specific equipment (lasers, electrosurgical generators, sterilization equipment, video towers, operative microscopes, endoscopes, surgical instruments/drills, implants, positioning devices, insufflators, and robotic equipment). QualificationsRequired Qualifications Degree/Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing. Graduate from a college or university accredited by ACEN or CCNE. (Equivalency determination may NOT be requested.) Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS). No additional certifications required. Experience: One (1) year of experience within the last two (2) years as a registered nurse. Board Certification: None required. Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse. Legal Authorization to Work: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Compliance & Onboarding Requirements Must meet all DHA health requirements: immunizations, annual seasonal influenza vaccination, TB screening (TST/IGRA within 3 months of reporting to TAMC), and a physical examination confirming fitness for duty. Must pass security investigative requirements, including fingerprinting and completion of an SF-86 (or equivalent OPM investigative product); Child Background Check if working with children.
