Position Summary: The Pre-operative/Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse (PACU) administers diligent care to outpatients & inpatients via monitoring, assessment, intervention and continuous reassessment both on admission prior to surgery and phase I and II of discharge to home or transfer to an inpatient unit. Post-operative care includes the care of patients who are recovering form anesthesia, including general, regional, and local.   Essential Functions: * Assesses patients prior to surgery. * Ensures that Informed Operative and other essential consents are signed. * Takes and records vital statistics of patients and verifies that lab work and other ordered testing is reported to ensure patient readiness for surgery. * Provide patient and family pre-operative education. * Follow all surgeon and anesthesia orders, which include starting an intravenous line. * Records all assessment data in electronic medical record. * Completes face-to-face reports with Operating Room Personnel both preoperatively and postoperatively. * Communicates effectively with Surgeons and Anesthesia providers. * Assists Anesthesia with Peripheral Nerve Blocks. * Understands and participates in all aspects of the Universal Protocol which prevents wrong site/side/person surgery. * Effectively organizes time, equipment and supplies as needed which includes monthly outdate checks of all carts or areas containing medications and/or supplies. * Demonstrate excellent post-operative assessment of Phase I patients and critically think and react effectively in all types of postop emergencies.   The responsibilities listed above are not all-inclusive; other activities may be required in support of the hospital’s goals and objectives.   Position Requirements: * Graduate from an associate degree, baccalaureate degree, or diploma school of nursing. * Current RN licensure in the state of Illinois. * BLS on hire * ACLS and PALS within 6 months of hire * Previous Ambulatory Surgery, Recovery Room or Intensive Care experience desired     Pay Range: Pay ranges from $27.473/hour to $43.997/hour (rate of pay is based on applicable years of experience) Hours: 32hours per week, with varying days Monday- Friday 730a-330p   Horizon Health is committed to caring not only for our patients, but for our staff as well.
