Department Overview OHSU Perinatal Newborn Float Pool RN support both Labor & Delivery and the Mother Baby Units to meet operational needs for both units and to provide additional flexibility in staffing for rapid census fluctuation. Function/Duties of Position Labor & delivery unit providing intrapartum, antepartum and newborn care to low and at-risk populations. Care is provided based on acuity, patient type and is in line with the Association of Obstetric, Women’s Health and Neonatal Nurses Guidelines for patients care (AWHONN). Mother Baby unit providing postpartum, newborn and antepartum care to low and at-risk populations. Care is provided to mothers and their newborn infants and to antepartum patients who require periodic fetal monitoring on a typical hospital unit. Department Specific Working Conditions: Sufficient time management, flexibility, and prioritization skills to work in both departments. Can/may be floated to MBU or L&D based on operational need. Required to keep up to date with departmental communications by e-mail Float to a variety of assigned units; sufficient time management, flexibility, and prioritization skills to float up to every 4 hours if necessary Required to keep up to date with departmental communications by e-mail and mailbox since there is no physical location for the “home” unit May be required to provide continuing care and monitoring of patients in locations off-unit to meet patient specific Required Qualifications Neonatal Resuscitation Protocol (NRP) certification as approve by the AAP ACLS certification One year of recent labor & delivery or post partum experience BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date. ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date. Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation Preferred Qualifications 5 years recent experience in a high-risk obstetric labor & delivery unit Fluency in Spanish or other languages S.T.A.B.L.E. certified Inpatient obstetric or Maternal Newborn certification Recent surgical circulating and surgical scrub experience Additional Details Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week. Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area.
