RN 1070 4 North- Orthopedic/Medical Schedule: Night Shift. 36 hours weekly. 7:00p-7:30a. About the Position A “Registered Nurse” is a person who holds a valid Indiana license, and who bears primary responsibility and accountability for nursing practices based on specialized knowledge, judgment, and skill derived from the principles of biological, physical, and behavioral sciences. The patient population on 4 North within the 30 beds is very diverse with pot-surgical patients from Ortho/Spine/Urology, along with post pacemakers and ICD implants, also have medical patients within our population. 4 North patients are adult med-surg patients 18 years and older. Overview of Responsibilities • Directs and delegates care based on identified need, skill and competence of other care providers. • Demonstrates that she/he can work independently within scope of practice. • Coordinates care with other disciplines. • Participates in the multidisciplinary rounding. • Uses appropriate resources – Charge Nurse, Clinical Practice Leader, Unit Manager, Directors, House Supervisor, Pharmacy, etc. • Demonstrates good time management by having no unjustified overtime. • Compliant with attendance policy. • Offers assistance to team to maintain unit productivity – asks “What may I do to help you leave on time?” • Informs supervisor when hours worked may accrue overtime. • Collaborates with team and management to develop cost-effective solutions and improve workflow processes. • Uses team huddles and check-backs to proactively manage changes. • Objectively works to resolve team conflict in a professional manner and offers to help others. • Accepts and offers team direction. • Open to constructive feedback. • Remains flexible with alterations in work assignments. • Actively supports unit goals, strategic plans and participates in hospital initiatives. • Responds to unit needs through flexibility with schedule and covering shift shortages. • Proactively looks for ways to decrease the stress of self and team. • Documentation is accurate, precise, thorough and meets the department and regulatory standards including date/time and signature on all medical record entries. • Compliant with Read Back and Verify of all telephone and verbal orders. • Documentation is up-to-date and concurrently charted in “real time.” • Documentation is legible, grammatically correct with appropriate punctuation. • Documentation contains only hospital approved abbreviations. • Documentation portrays the patient’s condition (tells the story in a sequential order). • Documents changes in patient condition and responses to interventions. • Documents communications with physicians and/or other members of the healthcare team. • Uses quantifiable tools to document pain (Lichert & Wong Scales) and follow-up intervention responses. • Documents safety risks. • Documents observational and purposeful rounding. • Demonstrates competence in utilization of all EMR and resource systems.
