Overview The Unit Supervisor provides leadership support as part of the unit management team, supporting the Nurse Manager in their responsibility for the development, implementation, and evaluation of care provided on the patient care department(s), consistent with the established strategic plan, goals and objectives for Patient Care Services. The Unit Supervisor carries out the day-to-day operations plan of the department, under the direction of the Nurse Manager and/or Director. He/She serves as a clinical resource to other healthcare team members on the designated unit. May assume a patient care assignment based on department needs. Enlists assistance of manager for additional staffing needs or concerns. Responsible to track and log attendance and address variances. Participates and delivers performance appraisals of staff. Engaging in crucial conversations to hold staff accountable. Maintain professional integrity at all times. If serving in a charge RN role, evaluates daily staffing needs. Collaborates with the leadership team to facilitate adjustments that meet the department needs The associate is aware of hospital and department compliance for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of department or hospital administrative staff. Purposefully conducts all aspects of the job in an ethical manner in support of the hospital’s commitment to ethical behavior in all areas of personal and professional activity. Successfully completes hospital-wide orientation, annual hospital competencies and department/unit specific competencies. Builds trusting, collaborative relationships with staff, peers, providers and administration to advance the core patient business strategy. Serves as a resource in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care in the clinical departments. Assists in creating a positive work environment that contributes to safe and positive clinical outcomes guidelines. Commits to the hours needed to achieve outcomes and develop others to assure round-the-clock leadership. Requires flexibility with hours worked and shifting priorities as the environment changes. Performs other duties as deemed necessary to meet the hospital’s mission, “to give the healthcare, we’d like our loved ones to receive.” Qualifications Graduate of accredited nursing program Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire. CORE Certification within six (6) months from date of hire.
