Job Summary: An RN, Surgery Coordinator is a registered nurse, responsible for direct & indirect patient care of patients in their department. They are responsible for the daily coordination of surgical cases including planning, logistics, staffing, specific specialty needs, and instrumentation. This team member is also available during and after hours for consultation. The RN, Surgery Coordinator must demonstrate critical thinking skills to ensure proper and timely care of elective, urgent, and emergent patients entering the Operating Room. The duties and responsibilities of the RN, Surgery Coordinator are interchangeable with the other RN, Surgery Coordinator duties and responsibilities. Education: Required: - Graduate from an accredited School of nursing. - Current license to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee. - Completion of 8 Hours of education specific to Total Ankle, Hip, and Knee Replacement. - Completion of 4 of these hours as Erlanger Online Education upon hire (EOLs and other training will be assigned by Department Leadership and/or Educator). Preferred: - BSN, RNFA &/or BS in Health-Related Field Experience: Required: - Minimum of two (2) years of surgical experience within specialty area Preferred: - Demonstrates progressive leadership characteristics Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration Required: - Current licensure to practice in the State of Tennessee or eNLC licensure. - CNOR (Permissible to obtain certification within one year of employment/transfer or eligibility) If certification is not obtained within one year of employment/transfer or eligibility, employee must maintain 30 contact hours/CEU's per year related to perioperative care. BLS completed prior to going to the unit/ department and maintained going forward Preferred: - N/A Department Position Summary: The RN Surgical Specialty Coordinator will provide: 1. Clinical expertise in coordinating patient care to the specialty area. 2. Collaborate with the specialty manager and QA Education coordinator for the educational needs of the staff, physician. 3. Coordinator case turnover and set up time. 4. Act as a liaison between the hospital, surgeons and vendors 5. Participate in data management and inventory control 6. Coordination of scheduling cases with supervision of the manager 7. Trouble shoot problems with equipment 8. Resource person for Central Sterile. 9. Demonstrate self-direction. 10. Provide leadership and assume responsibility for developing and maintaining clinical expertise and professional skills. 11. Report directly to the specialty manager of the service, 12. Assisting with coaching and counseling with team members, and decisions that affect the overall performance and growth of the service. 13. Required to work flexible hours to assist with daily schedule. - The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to individualize patient care to meet age specific needs. - The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for the assessment, documentation, and evaluation of the plan of care for the patient during the perioperative phase of surgery. They must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to individualize patient care to meet age specific needs. The surgery specialty coordinator works in collaboration with the medical, anesthesia, managerial, and clinical staff in order to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
