REQUIREMENTS OF A RN UNIT MANAGER:

  • Must possess valid nursing license in the state of Maryland.
  • RN, BSN Preferred.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and competencies and ability to interact effectively with employees, colleagues, clients and vendors at all levels.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, health-care related regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from small groups of customers and the general public.

Responsibilities
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the unit’s station under the supervision of the ADON/DON.
  • Assists the charge nurses with new admissions and/or re-admissions to the unit on day shift as necessary and coordinates with the 3-1-1 shift nurses and evening supervisor to follow through with admissions not completed on day shift.
  • Monitors and coordinates nursing services, treatment and documentation, to ensure it is provided in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Participates in an orientation program and orients professional nurses to the unit, its policies and procedures, and to his/her job description.
  • Recommends policies and procedures that will enhance nursing care.
  • Makes written and oral reports/recommendations to the DON/ADON as necessary/required, concerning the operations of the nursing department, including performance issues with professional nurses, GNA and CMA staff.
  • Assists nursing leadership and administrator in implementing new nursing policies.
  • Engages in studies and investigations related to improving nursing care as required.
  • Attends and participates in continuing educational programs designed to keep abreast of changes in the nursing profession.
  • Agrees to honor all state and federal residents’ rights.
