Description JOB SUMMARY The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for the full-time position of Road Maintenance Worker within the Road Department. The ideal candidate will be reliable and committed to the overall safety of the work environment. This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of county-maintained roads and drainage structures. MAJOR DUTIES Performs basic road repair and maintenance tasks. Performs grass cutting and tree trimming using tractors, trimmers, and edgers. Removes trash and debris from roadways. Assists in the installation and repair of pipes and other drainage structures. Performs traffic control and flagging activities as needed; follows safety rules and regulations on all work zone and flagging sites. Cleans and maintains assigned vehicle, tools, and equipment. Cleans and fixes roadway signs. Picks up parts and supplies, as needed. Transports voting machines to precincts during election season. Performs related duties. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION Knowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures. Knowledge of safety rules and regulations. Knowledge of the proper placement of guide signs. Knowledge of road maintenance and repair techniques. Skill in the operation of a variety of vehicles and equipment. Skill in flagging traffic and establishing safe work zones. Skill in the use of hand and power tools. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in interpersonal relations. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light objects and occasionally lifts heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes sense of smell. The work is typically performed in a noisy place or outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, or irritating chemicals. Work requires use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves. Oral and written communication. Interpersonal relations Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. More than six (6) months of related experience preferred. Possession of a valid Georgia Class C driver’s license and acceptable driving history. SALARY AND BENEFITS This is a full-time position with a starting annual compensation of $37,648 (Pay Grade 10A), or $18.10 per hour. Work hours are typically 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Friday.
