Roadway Inspector (Roadway Testing Technician) Aiken, SC   Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is seeking a Roadway Inspector to join our Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) team.     Position Summary This position is responsible for monitoring daily activities of asphalt, concrete, and earthwork for conformance of client/contractor work on various projects to ensure materials meet specifications. Position will perform engineering inspections activities such as construction observation and field sampling of asphalt, concrete, and earthwork for construction application. The inspector will record daily notes for engineering staff. The inspector must have strong written and verbal communication skills along with above average math skills.     Responsibilities * Ensure all materials, procedures and safety rules comply with the latest GDOT standards. * Sample and test construction materials to ensure they meet quality requirements of the project specifications. * Material sampling of concrete, asphalt, earthwork, and aggregates. * Interact and communicate effectively with colleagues and client representatives. * Attend meetings and interact with clients and third-party personnel. * Must use diplomacy in difficult and stressful situations. Requirements * High school diploma or equivalent required. * 2 or more years of highway construction or asphalt plant experience preferred. * Must be Roadway Testing Technician certified. * Current driver’s license with good 3-year driving record is required. Physical Demands This position requires minimal lifting of up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis. The inspector must be able to travel and tour work sites under adverse environmental conditions not limited to loud noise levels, high dust and dirt, and extreme temperatures.  The inspector must be able to visually examine construction materials and finished structures.   Expected Hours of Work This position will be a full-time position.  The inspector may be required to work some nights and weekends based on the project construction schedule. Inspectors will be eligible for preapproved overtime at time and a half.   Related Experience Candidates with experience as a Construction Inspector, Transportation Construction Inspector, CEI Inspector, Engineering Technician, Roadway Inspector, Highway Construction Inspector, Materials Testing Technician, Roadway Testing Technician (RTT), Asphalt Plant Technician, Concrete Field Technician, Quality Assurance (QA) Inspector, Quality Control (QC) Technician, Survey Technician, Field Engineer, Engineering Assistant, Utility Inspector, Earthwork Inspector, Bridge Inspector, Erosion Control Inspector, Public Works Inspector, Resident Project Representative (RPR), Transportation Technician, Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Technician, Construction Materials Laboratory Technician, Civil Engineering Technician, or Heavy Civil Construction Foreman/Superintendent are encouraged to apply. Candidates with experience performing construction inspection, materials testing, roadway and bridge inspection, utility coordination, surveying, quality assurance, quality control, or transportation construction management on projects for agencies such as GDOT, SCDOT, local municipalities, or heavy civil contractors are highly desirable.   Work Environment & Physical Requirements The role involves moderate physical activity such as walking, standing, bending, and climbing stairs or ladders. Employees may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds. It is essential for employees to navigate construction sites skillfully and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.   Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and proficiency in recognizing sound, tone, and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow, as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods. Employees must be capable of working in varied environmental conditions, including hot, cold, and noisy settings, and be able to stand and walk during site visits. Additionally, working on construction projects may involve night work and weekend work depending on the project scope and may include working in conditions with active traffic. Expected Hours of Work The ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work schedules may vary according to the project schedule.
