JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Welding Technician- 2nd Shift
Department: Operations
Reports To: Press Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY

Welding Technicians will be responsible for various production-related activities. Job responsibilities include setting up and maintaining welding work cells, proving out welding processes or specifications, materials testing, programming welding automation or robots, troubleshooting welding-related processes, and the investigation of materials and specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain a positive working relationship with Dennen Steel Corporation employees to ensure a cooperative and productive work environment.
  • Read and interpret blue prints, route sheets and work sheets and perform welding procedures on fitted assemblies, including frames, frame components and various auto and non-auto parts.
  • Inspects product at defined intervals against designated acceptance criteria as defined in work instructions.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of all job-related Quality Objectives, Quality System Policies, Procedures, and Work Instructions.
  • Monitor welding supplies and follow production KanBan as required
  • Operate MIG, TIG, resistance and stick welding machines as required
  • Rig, lift, move, mount and demount frames & components into weld positioner or fixtures
  • Replace consumable parts on wire feeders and welding guns, provide minor repairs to welding guns.
  • Kitting
  • Replace welding wire coils/barrels and inert gas cylinders as required
  • Troubleshooting robotic welding programs, robotic cell issues. Remove & install robotic weld fixtures.
  • Program and re-teach welding robots.
  • Hand weld assemblies as required
  • Set-up brake presses
  • Fabricate production items as required
  • Work independently or in a team setting
  • Exercises ingenuity to solve problems without extensive supervision
  • Able to perform the job functions under broad supervision
  • Meet deadlines and complete processes in time allotted
  • Complete each job thoroughly and correctly
  • Maintains work area in a clean and safe condition, following 5S standards.

IMPACT ON CUSTOMER QUALITY Failure to perform these activities will likely result in dissatisfaction to the internal/external customer.

  • Follow established work instructions and quality standards.
  • Responsible for the safety of teammates and product from damage and/or injury.
  • Proper first/last piece inspections of parts.
  • Perform daily weld tests as required by customer specifications.
  • Verify certifications of all handheld inspection devices and gauges.
  • Conduct accurate reporting of production into AX system.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High School completion or GED required. One year certificate from college or technical school; one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Has the ability to write routine reports, correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Utilize basic computer skills, MS Office, and or other Dennen Steel Corp programs.
