The Position The Opportunity We are seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist to start a research project within the Nucleic Acid-based Medicine Department at Roche. The focus of the position is to build and develop RNA-based transgenes and synthetic expression systems for Gene Therapy applications. In a highly cross-functional and collaborative team, you will be able to explore and contribute to the engineering of next generation genomic medicines. The environment is exciting, fast-paced and offers the opportunity to work and publish at the cutting edge of molecular engineering research. The duration of the RPF project is initially set for two years, with the possibility of extension for a third year. This position is sponsored by the Roche Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. The collaborative research project will be conducted at Roche Basel pRED Center. Who you are You hold a PhD in molecular biology, human genetics, biochemistry or related discipline within the fields RNA biology, synthetic biology, or gene therapy. In addition, you have expertise in the following: RNA/DNA transgene design RNA interference technologies (miRNAs, siRNAs) Synthetic biology and pooled screens Cell culture and molecular biology methods NGS methods and bioinformatics Demonstrated skills in designing and performing experiments in hypothesis-driven research, and in establishing innovative techniques Proven record of scientific publications Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills are required Furthermore, you have very good interpersonal and communication skills, are able to build good working relationships and are an outstanding teammate. Your experience and investigative attitude allow you to work independently to design, perform, and interpret experiments, and to embark on new scientific methodologies. You have been actively engaged in scientific research continuously since your PhD and ready to start an RPF postdoctoral activity no later than 4 years after PhD completion. Responsibilities
