Technical Surveillance Officer Role type: Police Staff Contract duration: Permanent Contract type: Full time. 37 Hours per week. Grade / Scale: Band F. Salary: £40,383 - £42,612 Shift allowance: This role is subject to shift allowance. Overtime and weekend working: On the occasion there will be an expectation to work overtime at weekends, this will be payable as per force policies and guidelines. Location – Worcester area. Our officers and staff are at the forefront of the UK’s work to confront crime, operating around the clock to provide tactical support to proactive and reactive Serious and Organised Crime Operations. We’re looking for highly motivated, dynamic and enthusiastic individuals to join the Technical Surveillance Unit of the Regional Organised Crime Unit West Midlands. Information about the role. Accountable to the Detective Sergeants within the Regional Technical Surveillance Teams, applicants need to be highly motivated, dynamic and enthusiastic with excellent problem-solving skills, seeking a challenging role in covert policing. Successful applicants will require to demonstrate highest standards of confidentiality, honesty and integrity. They should have experience of working within diverse teams, ideally but not essential have a knowledge and understanding of covert policing and experience of proactive police investigations. Additionally, applicants will need to demonstrate a knowledge of law and procedures relating to RIPA, Police Act, CPIA, Human Rights and covert policing methods. Day to Day tasks include: * Assessing and providing technical solutions and advice to problems posed by Policing Teams across the region. * Deploy and operate technical equipment safely, lawfully, ethically and in line with legislative and policy guidelines. * Conduct site surveys and provide written feasibility studies in order to support operational deployments. * Maintenance of the TSU audit system which controls the storage and issue of all TSU equipment ensuring that it stands up to scrutiny from the Investigatory Powers Commissioner’s Office (IPCO). * Working collaboratively with other policing teams across the ROCU WM region. * To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature of the role, level of responsibility and grading of the post, as required. * Have a good understanding of product management for disclosure purposes. * To uphold the ROCU WM values specified in the Force and Departmental objectives ensuring an inclusive and respectful environment and workplace. Essential Skills / Qualifications. * Degree or HND or equivalent in one of the following, Computing (Systems, Networking, Engineering) Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Communications or Automotive Engineering. * OR – be able to demonstrate relevant experience in a field relating to the above qualifications, ideally in a Law Enforcement setting. Essential Experience / Skills. * Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to advise and guide to achieve operational objectives. * Ability to work independently or part of a team in challenging environments, supporting others and possess excellent decision making and problem-solving skills. * Full UK Driving Licence. May be required to undertake basic police driving assessments. Desirable * Have experience of managing software in order to control equipment. * Have experience and knowledge of cellular infrastructure and technology. * Experience in workshop skills and tools in a workplace environment. * Electrical qualifications / experience advantageous. Due to the nature of the role, successful applicants will be required to participate in an ‘on-call’ rota covering weekdays, weekends and public holidays 24 hours per day, 365 days per year and this may also include extended duties at short notice. ‘On-call’ allowances will be paid in accordance with their home force agreements. Other special conditions: Undergo full security and financial clearance to Management vetting/Security Clearance vetting level (prior to appointment). Undertake continuous professional development and attend training courses as required within the role (which are normally out of the Force area). The normal place of work will be designated upon acceptance of the role, but given the nature of the work the post-holder may be required to work across the ROCU West Midlands region. It is possible that the post-holder may be required to work across the country and/or abroad. Where necessary, overnight accommodation will be provided in line with their home force subsistence procedures. It is a requirement of the role that you work in often difficult conditions which may include working in confined spaces or at heights, adverse weather, unsanitary conditions and RF radiation. Whilst deployed in such situations the necessary PPE equipment will be supplied.
