Job Purpose/Objective The Routing Manager is responsible for strategic oversight of all route planning, optimization, and dispatch operations. This role leads the routing team in leveraging technology platforms (Omnitracs Strategic Planner, Omnitracs Routing, Omnitracs Dispatch, and Roadnet) to maximize fleet efficiency, reduce operational costs, and enhance customer service delivery. The position supports the Transportation Department and collaborates cross-functionally to drive continuous improvement in supply chain logistics. II. Essential Job Functions Strategic Leadership & Team Management Supervise and develop Routing Planner(s) and dispatch personnel Meet and enhance performance metrics and KPIs for routing efficiency, on-time delivery rates, and cost optimization Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching to routing team members Future forward planning for multiple geographic regions Technology & System Optimization Oversee implementation and utilization of Omnitracs routing platforms (Strategic Planner, Routing, Dispatch, Roadnet) Analyze historical delivery data to identify optimization opportunities and implement continuous improvements Leverage telematics and solutions to respond to real-time exceptions and customer demands Monitor and optimize cloud-based routing solutions to track real-time ETAs and asset locations Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Leadership, Sales, Shipping, and Transportation departments to align routing strategies with business objectives Develop and maintain truck utilization strategies to maximize fleet efficiency and reduce operational costs Work with management to establish and refine customer service standards and delivery windows Resource Planning Collaborative resource planning with transportation team for delivery drivers, including same-day and scheduled next day routes Forecast staffing needs based on volume projections and seasonal demand Ensure adequate route coverage to meet customer commitments Operational Excellence Handle escalated internal challenges and external customer complaints with proactive resolution strategies Establish business rules and customer requirements within routing parameters Drive initiatives to reduce fuel consumption, vehicle wear, and overall operational costs while maintaining service levels Generate enhanced fleet reporting and performance analytics for leadership review Compliance & Safety Oversight Ensure team compliance with DOT regulations including hours of service and weight restrictions Monitor delivery performance against established standards and address variances III. Additional Job Functions Investigate and resolve complex customer delivery issues requiring management intervention Verify order accuracy and proper load sequencing for delivery trucks Implement process improvements that give time back to teams for strategic focus Coordinate with IT and vendor support teams (24/7 Omnitracs support) for system enhancements and training Develop contingency plans for weather events, vehicle breakdowns, and other operational disruptions Participate in budgeting and cost control initiatives for the Transportation Department Qualifications 3-5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain management 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience Proficiency with routing optimization software (Omnitracs/Roadnet preferred) Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret data and drive actionable insights Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities Knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance requirements Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field preferred
